About BLUE Buffalo

Blue Buffalo began with unconditional love and some furry inspiration from a large breed Airedale, Blue. When Blue's family started a pet food company, their vision was clear. They wanted every pet parent to be able to feed their pet with the same care they would feed family. So they created the #1 natural pet specialty food to help furry family members live happy, healthy lives. Of course, they named it after Blue.

My cat had crystals and was operated on for it. He has been on prescription food, but I noticed that the Blue Wilderness Wet food does not have any magnesium or ash in it. He really likes it better, so can you confirm that it does not have the magnesium or ash?
Answer by ChewyDec 01, 2017
This product does contain Ash and Magnesium. We encourage pet parents to consult with a veterinarian prior to make sure this product is the best fit for your pet and their current treatment plan.

What exactly is “BPA non-intent”? This was an answer you provided for a customer asking if the cans were lined in BPA. Could you clarify, and give a thorough, clear answer on whether the cans or linings have ANY BPA in them? Thanks.
Answer by ChewyNov 19, 2019
All of Blue Buffalo's cans are BPA non-intent. BPA non-intent refers to the fact that BPA is ubiquitous in the natural environment, and very small amounts may be detected in non-BPA substances, as current technology measures in parts per billion. BPA non-intent is referred to, rather than BPA-free as a more accurate term in such circumstances.

What exactly is ash. Ive seen it refrenced several times but i want to know if its good for cats or bad for them. If it is bad for them why is it used and is it in all brands of wet foods for cats or just certain brands and what brands do contain it.
Answer by ChewyFeb 16, 2019
Ash level in pet food is considered as a form of measurement, and refers to the amount of mineral nutrients (like phosphorous, calcium, zinc and iron) available in the food. A way to calculate ash levels is by burning the cat or dog food, which destroys the organic material (proteins, fats and carbohydrates), and leaves behind the inorganic, non-combustible minerals known as ash.

Are there any by-products in any of the Blue Baffalo products? I do not see any listed here, but it's not labeled as by-product free or no by-products. Thanks!
Answer by ChewyOct 05, 2017
This formula doesn't contain any by-products.

My cat wouldn't eat a few cans of this

About a month ago I ran into a few cans in a row that my cat wouldn't eat. He sniffed it, and then immediately started to "bury" it, so when it was time to buy more wet food I switched to Tiki Cat pate and his plate has never been cleaner - he used to leave little bits of food and now the plate looks like I just took it out of the cupboard. I don't know if Blue Wilderness is having a quality control issue but I doubt I'm going back.

Somewhat Disappointed

With canned cat food disappearing from supermarket store shelves, I decided to try ordering from Chewy. My senior cat loves the pate canned cat food, and he loved the chicken and salmon flavors, but absolutely hated the duck flavor. Not only was I disappointed in having to toss out all the duck cans (who decided that cats like duck?), but also the fact that I had no choice in the flavor selection offered. Won't order this again. The rest of my order was fine, but it was all packaged together in one impossibly heavy box. The 35 lb. container of litter should have been delivered separately.

Not impressed

Since you were out of my American Journey pate, I had to get something. Blue Buffalo has a good rep so I went with that. The Duck was mush. watery and poor consistency. I had to almost freeze it and the others so I could spoon it out. Won’t buy again.

The Salmon is rotten

I've got this case on Autoship as my senior cat loves it and it keeps him 'regular' however, in the last two cases, the salmon cans have been watery-mush and he won't eat it. It wasn't like that in my first few orders and it's only the salmon. With more than a few cans being inedible, I've had to throw out more than he's eaten. For that, I've rated it 3 instead of 5. It's a waste if I've paid for it but he can't eat it.

My Cats will not touch this!

Both cats turn their heads & walk away. The chicken pate is runny like a thick soup, the duck pate stinks, and the salmon I mixed a small amount with another wet food so I didn't totally lose my $$ - Sorry but the cats are not impressed.

New favorite

Snickers’ new favorite! A friend included Blue Buffalo in my Easter basket and Snickers loves it. I’m pleased I have two different brands of canned food for my cat. Duck is her favorite, with chicken as a close second.

My cat that is not finicky at all absolutely will not touch this food.

I Purchased this food thinking that the very high quality would be better for my cat. My cat has always enjoyed any food I put in front of her until I gave her this food. She will not touch this food and would rather go hungry than eat this food. I also gave it to my other cat who also hates the food. Neither cat will take one bite of this food. This is unfortunate since I ordered in 2 cases of this expensive food.

Salmon not up to standards

the Duck and Chicken are ok, but lately the Salmon is VERY watered down and looks white or discolored. I had to throw away the Salmon...my cats would not eat it and one threw it up. I even tried to give it to the Community cats outside and they would not touch it. I will be switching brands because I am now leery of the others in the pack.

Like "real" meat

My elderly cat is really picky with food choices, and she consistently loves this wet food. It smells like the meat it is (word to the wise: put it in an airtight container before putting it in your fridge!), and she eats the whole portion we give her, every time. This is the first canned food we've tried that I can say that about.

My cats aren't thrilled with it

It looks healthy enough, but I have 2 cats and neither cares for this stuff. Plus now I'm stuck with an extra order because Chewy has stopped giving any advance warning of shipments coming. I am not a happy customer!
