BLUE Wilderness contains:
Both types of diets can be a good fit. It just depends on the needs of your pet and your personal preference. Whole grains are complex carbohydrates that provide dogs with the energy they need to thrive. But if your pet has sensitivities to grains, you would want a grain-free option. Even Blue Buffalo’s diets with grains are made without corn or wheat — part of our True BLUE Promise. Instead, we use wholesome oats, barley, and brown rice. Both grains and grain-free carbohydrates are healthy and nutritious; we recommend talking with your veterinarian to decide which option is best for your pet.
While grains provide nutrition for pets, some people choose to avoid grains for various reasons. Grains are not common allergens in most dogs and cats, but if your pet is allergic to a specific grain or ingredient, you should avoid it. Blue Buffalo foods never contain corn, wheat or soy.
There are three main benefits of feeding grains:

Need to stop feeding your dog this food immediately. I have used BB for years with all our dogs. Just recently, our current 3 dogs were experiencing severe diarrhea. Our puppy husky would poop blood. They were all healthy, then out of the blue they started to get sicker and sicker. They loved the food, never stopped eating it, it just went right through them. What a mess cleaning up after 3 dogs everyday. Then I read these comments. I am not alone in this disappointment. I've decided since BB WAS the best out there, and now it's killing our pets, I am moving forward with a raw diet. At least I know what they're eating because I am preparing it.
Started my Malamute puppy on the puppy formula of Rocky Mountain Recipe with Red Meat because she was having diarrhea with regular Blue Chicken for Puppies, so I changed. The puppy formula was more expensive but her diarrhea stopped. Come to find out later that her diarrhea was not from the chicken but something else. But everything worked out fine. She is now 1 year 7 months and is on the Adult formula of the Rocky Mountain Recipe with Red Meat and still loves it. The bag size has changed from 22 lbs. to 28 lbs. and of course, the price has gone way up, like everything else. This is very good food but it is expensive and I'm not sure how long she can stay on this food but she loves it so, of course, we'll try everything we can do to keep her on Blue Wilderness, Rocky Mountain Recipe with Red Meat!!! She's worth it!
Add me to the upset list. I began my oldest rescue on this 9 years ago when he came to us in a bad state. Within about 2 months, his alopecia was gone, his hair thick & shiney & his weight back to normal. Next two pups also ate this with no issues EVER - for nearly a decade. I can’t imagine what possessed BB to mess with the recipe, but it has wreaked havoc on my poor Romeo. Loose stools, hair loss, wicked skin rash. Roxy, my Sheepadoodle, loose stools. Gary, my Scottie, just won’t eat it. Now comes the fun of switching food for 3 dogs. I’m beyond livid. As we say here in Texas, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. There wasn’t a thing wrong with this food. Blue Buffalo sold out to corporate America now our dogs are sick. Naturally, they also jacked up the price. My blood boils when I see their ads now. Grrrr!
My dog likes this food, the beef variety seems to fill him up better than the chicken and I appreciate that it doesn't have any corn or other carby fillers.
Years ago when I first switched to Blue Wilderness RMR, when I was grain free, it did amazing things for my three mini doxies. Their hair was silky smooth. My long hair grew a full lions mane. They were shiny, no itching or hotspots. I was completely blown away. For some reason, Blue Buffalo decided to change their grain free recipe completely, and not just change it add grains to it. Anybody who even knows that’s dogs exist, know that their food cannot be changed on the spot for risk of health problems. Not only did they change it out of no where, whatever they put in it made my dogs very sick. We just adopted a puppy and she has been pooping blood, and not just a little bit, a lot. She only weighs 3.5lbs. We spent almost a thousand dollars taking her and another one to the vet just for them to have all the tests come back negative. No parasites, no parvo, no blockage, no ingesting foreign objects nothing. After doing some research and finding out that many other puppies and families are having the same issues with the food we decided to change it. We stopped it instantly, and this was just yesterday. By the end of the day yesterday the baby went poop for the first time in a week without blood being present, nor was it diarrhea. Today her stools are 100% back to normal. All my four are back to normal. I would advise anyone who is using, or thinking about using Blue Wilderness or Blue Buffalo period, to not even take the chance. It is not worth the damage it causes nor is it worth the risk of any dogs dying. I know my baby would have died if we didn’t get her turned around fast.
I thought I'd write a review with a little more positive twist to it. I didn't realize that there was actually a new recipe/formula for the dry Red Meat food. I picked up a 22 lb bag not happy I couldn't find a smaller bag. (Why did they stop making this in a smaller size?) After feeding it to them for a few days the loose stools; diarrhea started and I kept trying different things to figure out what it was not thinking it was the food I always used. Finally after 3 weeks their stools returned to better than normal. They looked a bit healthier. After looking online for food I read the crappy reviews. So I've continued the same new recipe food and they seem to enjoy it and lived through the change.
DO NOT GET THIS FOOD! We've used blue wilderness for a long time. But, this new formula almost killed our dog. First she started with gas, then diarrhea, then vomitting. She could no longer keep anything down and was getting dehydrated. Ended up taking her to the vet. SHAME ON YOU. The formula was way better before.
I have a dog that is allergic to poultry and this food was great until they changed the formula and put poultry in it and I didn't know it until the second to third bag I bought and noticed my dog was inching and chewing herself so I just happened to look on the bag and saw poultry was now in the food. Was very upsetting. Will now not trust so I will always be checking.
I have used Blue Wilderness for years, however the new recipe is making my dogs have extremely loose stools. I will not buy this product in the future.
Have been on BB for years. New formula is giving my dogs severe diarrhea. Switching brands now
