Will Chicken fat and chicken liver trigger my dogs chicken allergy?
Answer by ChewyFeb 03, 2019
Typically, irritants are proteins (animal or plant), and not fats. As a result, if your pet is allergic to chicken protein, it will not be allergic to chicken fat. Products that are chicken-free (no chicken, chicken organs, or chicken eggs) but include chicken fat should be safe to feed. Please consult your veterinarian if you have any questions.

Helped my baby's allergies!

My mini poodle has been scratching away for a long time. Figured out that he's very allergic to corn and have removed all grains. He was still eating the grain free food that he started w the breeder but still scratching a lot! Moved to Brothers Complete and within a couple weeks the scratching was down and it just keeps getting better! He LOVED the food from moment one and refused to even finish off a tiny bit of his old food. Now to find another home for it!

Impressed Vet

My 13 year old rescue dog had chronic skin problems. After trying most of the traditional foods to help the situation, with little to no improvement, I tried Brothers goat formula. Was so impressed, I took the empty bag to my veterinarian. His reaction? "WOW...THIS IS AMAZING! WHERE DID YOU FIND THIS STUFF ?" Of course, I told him it came from Chewy. All the good ingredients, none of the trouble-makers. Great product !

Gas and bloating

I slowly tried to introduce this kibble to my senior dog by putting a little into her regular kibble for a week. Adding a little bit more each day and a little less of the other kibble. She has sensitive skin, grain allergy, and as a senior Golden Retriever is prone to obesity.....so we felt this was a great choice. Day 9, was her first time eating this dog food by itself at the recommended portion for her size....her stomach bloated and she had the worst sulphur smelling gas she's ever had in her 15 years of life. We had to provide pepto for relief. We thought she might have eaten something in the yard so we followed her around the yard observing her bowel movements; checking for bloody stool, mucus, bones, etc. and looking for the remains of a dead bird or rabbit...but found nothing. Also BM was normal but smelled foul. The next meal, we tried again with the same results. Bloated tummy, bad eggy sulphur gas, pepto. We have not fed her this food again. For the price and the description I felt like I was getting premium quality for my sweet senior Golden Retriever. What a waste of money and I feel so guilty I gave her 2 days of tummy ache and gas so bad she even tried to move away from the smell. AVOID!

Could not even fully transition into the food

Couldn’t even fully finish transition my boys into this food- my boys picked it out and wouldn’t touch it. Not happy all considering the price of the food. I’ll be canceling this auto ship, and won’t be ordering it again. The bag is almost full, now what do I do?

So far so good

Adopted this adorable low rider American Bully, he did come with allergies and overweight. My pit has allergies also so I thought no problem he is on Core Wellness limited ingredients weight management. Gunny’s allergies just got worse, vet visits, antibiotics, prednisone, wipes and so on they subsided but did go away. Bought a small bag of Brothers after doing a lot of research. Within 2 weeks his skin was healing up and looked so much better. Sticking with this brand until otherwise both the pups skin tells me different

Verdict is still out

My 5 year old pug has been on Hill's z/d for 3 years now, due to chronic allergy-related issues (rashes, ear/skin fold yeast & bacteria infections). I thought this may be a great food to try to switch him on to so he gets overall better nutrition... he seemed to be doing well with it (maybe slightly more poop).... but then just as I was at the 60% this new food 40% old food I started noticing an abundance of more shedding from him. He's always shed A LOT and this was noticeably MORE. It was middle of summer, no reason that it would dramatically increase (he usually shed most in spring). I switched him back to 60% old food, 40% new and shedding is less again. May try again to test if my theory that this was the cause for excess shedding is true or not... TBD! I hope it works, I think the formula SOUNDS perfect for him.

Good stuff

Both of my dogs love it. They eagerly dive in and enjoy it.. they seem to feel better and do not balk at feeding time like they used to. Its a wonderful feeling.

Allergies Still a Problem

After trying this for 7 months I am going to have to try something else. My very allergic white American Bulldog is still having bad allergies even while on Apoquel 1 1/2 tabs per day. Could be the turkey and chicken in the ingredients. It’s too bad because I have 4 dogs and they al love the taste but can’t afford to buy two different kinds of dog food. Going to try Canidae Pure

UNIQUE PROTEIN BUT.......

My pups wouldn’t eat it. I try to rotate their food, and feed them high quality dry and wet, so it was disappointing that they didn’t like it. Your pup might love it.

My Husky loves this food.

Aspen loves this food. Although I can’t say that it has helped much with her allergies, she is losing weight on it. We will continue to use it for that fact. Our vet says our Husky is a little too husky!
