The carrageenan used in some of Blue Buffalo products is a food-grade, AAFCO, and FDA-approved ingredient. It is used in some of the Blue Buffalo canned formulas for its use as a stabilizer and thickener. This is a natural ingredient that is derived from a red seaweed extract.

Is it a stew with some gravy?

All of Blue Buffalo's cans are BPA non-intent. BPA non-intent refers to the fact that BPA is ubiquitous in the natural environment, and very small amounts may be detected in non-BPA substances, as current technology measures in parts per billion. BPA non-intent is referred to, rather than BPA-free as a more accurate term in such circumstances.

Contains no chicken

Dog likes its taste, I like that it doesn't have chicken. (She's allergic to chicken and it eventually gives her ear infections)

I was disappointed to find that it was more a pate than a chunk stew-type food. We had been using Merrick Cowboy Cookout which has chunks that you can see of beef, carrots, green beans & apples in gravy for about the same price. When it's pureed you can't see what's in it. I'm switching back.
