The hole is designed to hang from a hook. For example, if a veterinarian takes off the collar to examine dog they would have a place to hang it close by.

Great e-collar

My dog, Lucy, got attacked and had to get some stitches in her ear. She has anxiety issues so I did't love the idea of putting a cone on her, but she couldn't help from scratching as she healed. This thing was amazing, I would even venture to say she liked wearing it. She knew she wasn't supposed to scratch so when she'd start shaking her head I'd pull it out and she would wag her tail and go lay on the couch for me to put it on. Lucy is a Dachshund so she has sort of weird proportions, so she needed a Medium and couldn't reach her back legs.

This worked for my dog

This is by far the best collar. I have a Cocker Spaniel and size medium worked for him.

Does not work

I used this collar and my dog was able to reach her injury with no problem. I tried a longer size, and still she was able to reach her injury.
