Are these chews AAFCO approved?

These treats do not follow the guidelines set by the AAFCO for a balanced and complete meal. The AAFCO Model Pet Food Regulations recognize the intended purpose of treat products and do not require that pet treats meet the nutritional adequacy requirements for a complete and balanced dog food. The treats are formulated to meet the VOHC’s standards for effectiveness in reducing tartar buildup​.

I got them as a test for my dog, he's a 26lbs mix, definitely not a mini breed, but these were so much cheaper and you get a few more (plus, he's on a diet), I had to see how small they really were. very small, but big enough that they're not a choking hazard for my dog. So we love them! Without his bedtime dental stick, his breath gets a bit smelly.. this brand seem to help a lot for him!

I was excited to try these for dental health since they are VOHC recommended, more reasonably priced than other products, and not likely to cause choking hazard. However, within a couple hours of giving these to my two pugs, both had upset stomachs with loose stool for a week. This was the only change to their diet, and I was very disappointed to toss the bag. After doing some post-research and seeing it mentioned in several previous reviews, it seems the product contains a compound with a dubious safety record.
