Dose this testing kit detect colors like merle ?

This kit does not test for coat colors, but DNA My Dog hopes to offer a Genetic Health Screening Test in the near future as an upgrade to their existing Breed ID Tests.

Does the test show whether the dog has the,MDR1 gene that herding breeds can have?

This test does not test for the MDR1 gene. While this test identifies breed composition and ancestry, it focuses on breed identification rather than genetic health conditions like MDR1 sensitivity. To test for MDR1, you would need a separate test specifically designed for that purpose.

How long does it take for results?

You will receive an email from the manufacturer when the sample arrives at their facility. From that date, it will take approximately 2-3 weeks to get the Breed Test or Allergy Test results.

Inaccurate results

Used the test for my 2 mixed breed dogs. One dog we knew what breeds her parents were and these did not show up in her test at all. Save your money.

Our beautiful rescue puppy that is very different in looks. When asked what breed he looks like by the vet office, my husband and I were stumped. We are experienced dog owners but nothing made sense. This test answered all of our questions and gave us background info on the breeds that were listed in his DNA. So happy we did this to understand him better.

Seems accurate

The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars was the results took a long time to get. The process was very easy and my dogs results make sense and seem accurate.

These don't work

I assumed that chewy stocked products that they looked into, which is why I purchased it but on further research this company and test are a scam and only a few

Gave me 100% DNA on a puppy. First time I’ve used this brand, usually I use VGL labs or embark, but thought because Chewy carried it, it would be good. As a dog rescuer I was trying to save a little, lol, ended up buying a kit from embark anyhow. Very disappointed. Mom trapped in November, had 2 babies 10 days later, was trying to identify to be able to find homes.

This was super easy to get the sample from my puppy, just mail it back and once they received it in their lab, I had the results in a less than 2 weeks. Was surprised by what I saw. My pup is almost 1/2 chihuahua, a little leads than a 1/4 miniature poodle and the rest daschund and maltese.

I have used other DNA kits that I think I prefer. This one just gives you percentages of breeds present in your dog. Others do that but also give you a visual for a “family tree”. Don’t think I will use this one again. I didn’t include a picture or my guesses. I think that’s cheating. Luann came back as a pretty even mixture of 5 small breeds. A precious scruffy mutt!!

I also enjoyed the way the results were broken down and the breeds were explained. The website is super user friendly. Not difficult to navigate. I’m actually tempted to do this with my other dog as well.
