Whether this litter can be used in an automatic litter box will depend on the litter box. Always check your specific automatic litter box's guidelines for compatibility before use.

Is this litter good for long haired cats?

Dr. Elsey makes another silica litter that is specified as being for long haired cats. We used to use the long-hair crystals all the time before switching to respiratory relief and the only difference (besides the reduced dust in RR) is really the size of the crystals. The RR is much finer, smaller-grained, closer to table salt. The long haired version is big honkin crystals - think rock salt. All ours are domestic short-hairs right now but I used to have a fluffy boy and can see why a long haired cat might prefer the bigger crystals (or why their people might!) since it probably is less likely to get in fluffier paws than the respiratory relief crystals.

I don't know how they're defining "low dust" but this is NOT low dust, even compared to clay litter, honestly, COMPARED TO ANY LITTER this is AWFUL. I used to use this for our asthmatic cat, but it was the wrong choice (we eventually switched). The non clumping is... nice in some ways, but the crystals turn yellow from urine (to help indicate it's dirtiness) but there's no way to sift that from the "good" litter, so you should probably change this every week or so, which is pretty frequently for the price. Also, STOP PUTTING FLIERS IN THE BAG, that is the most annoying thing I have ever seen in a product. It's cute in cereal boxes, in litter... I don't want to have to reach into the box (however clean it is), to pull out your stupid garbage. Also, THE TRACKING IS AWFUL. We have huge cloth mats that reach almost 2 feet from the litter boxes and the laundry room they're in STILL had so much of the crystals all over (after 2 days normally), requiring regular sweeping. Not too mention we'd often find the crystals around the house and in the bed (which is a floor up from the laundry room we keep the litters in). I've since swapped to natural pine pellet litter and it is HANDS DOWN so much better (and cheaper). Less tracking, they smell nicer. EVEN dust-wise, you'd think wood pellets would have more dust than this which claims to be low dust but nope, if these are low-dust then the new pine litter I'm using is dust-free by comparison. Low dust compared to a dust storm? It's wild they can even advertise that. I cannot really recommend this litter at all, especially for the price.

I’ve had this litter for less than a week and I’ve had to vacuum 3x per day to keep the mess at bay The odor control is excellent. I just wish there was a way to prevent tracking! We have a litter mat by her box, but sadly it doesn’t make a significant difference

This litter stays really clean and odor free. Pee is easily mixed and absorbed with unpleasant clumps. Poo is easily scooped out. Unfortunately, it is very very dusty, despite the “Clean Air” claim. Every time I stir the litter I can feel/smell the dust in the air, and I have to frequently dust the room because it settles everywhere. However, the pros out way the cons.

The level of tracking we have seen with this litter compared to tidy cats crystal litter and pretty litter is Wild and not in a good way. It sticks to our cats feet if she pees so there's clumps getting left on the floor. It travels everywhere and I'm tired of having to brush off my bed every night when the litter box isn't even in our bedroom. I started looking at other crystal litter brands to see if pretty litters tracking was typical for that type and I didn't realize how good we had it until I tried this one. I don't know how else to try and stop it going everywhere the cat goes. We have mats and everything but it hasn't helped. We are going back to the pretty litter so I'm glad we had the comparisons but it was not a fun ride.

This was great when I first started buying it, but it stopped working as well. I have two kitties and four litter boxes. Each cat tends to use only their one preferred litter box and the other two are just extras to keep them from stressing over it. The litter would not even last a week before I had to dump it all, much less a month. It was also really, really dusty and tracked a lot.
