This litter has never been treated with any pesticides.

Does this litter have sodium bentonite? If not, what is the clumping ingredient used?

Answer by npontarelliMar 11, 2021
All clumping litters are made from sodium bentonite, a form of clay. Premium scoopables, like Dr. Elsey's use 100% sodium bentonite to maximize clumping ability. Some clumping litters blend cheaper clays with bentonite and will break apart in the litter box.

I really like this litter. I have several cats and they tracked litter everywhere. I was so sick of stepping on litter and decided to give this a try. The Litter does stay in the box and one of my cats had a habit of using the bathtub. He hasn't done this since I started using it. I wish it came in a pail or had a handle. I'm a senior and it is very hard to lift. If Dr Elsey is alive he should think of seniors and give us a pail. I use other brands as well and find that one size doesn't fit all so to speak. I love the smell of scoop away but have one cat that uses one area of the box and it's like scooping a small goopy continent no matter how much I use. I've found that cats with health problems such as diabetes and hyperthyroidism urinate more and finding a litter that can handle that is a challenge. I use arm and hammer slide for them. No dust and minimal tracking I guess I've said enough.

My male cat has a long history of struvite crystals and FIC. He wasn’t a fan of the pine litter I was using so I decided to transition him to this. Within a week, he started urinating blood. I did a little more research on this particular litter and discovered the reason it’s being discontinued is because its heavy scent actually worsens stress and the symptoms of FIC. I immediately threw it all out and bought unscented crystals. It took about a month for his urine to completely clear up. Do NOT buy this for your sensitive kitties!

I have used this for multiple cats for years. My favorite letter, not even close. You may pay a little bit more than the cheaper brands, but it's well worth it. You will not have the issues you have with the cheaper brands. The first two or three days after I've added this litter, my cats act like it's catnip.

Clumps well

Not good on Oder, but it’s low dust and not expensive. I like the size of the bags, they are manageable. Don’t notice any difference to the other variety.

My cat struggles with feeling confident and this litter did the trick! Mixed with regular elseys to help it last and she loves it but it is a little dustier than the regular formula so if you're using it alone maybe consider mixing it? It's probably 3x as dusty as the regular formula to give you an idea but the benefits as of now are outweighing the one con it has

One of my boys was having a hard time sharing a litter box and would pee elsewhere in the house. Once I switched to Dr. Elsey’s, there has been no peeing outside of the box. Both cats are boys and love this litter, I don’t have to put pellets on the bottom either. It clumps really nice and doesn’t track around the house. (Side note: Definitely sad Dr. Elsey’s discontinued the scented litter but I think it was for the better of all cats.)

Does not entice cat to use litter box

Cat refuses box and prefers outdoor toileting. Was hoping this product would lure her back to box but it doesn’t.
