What is the weight?

This scratching post weighs 13.23 pounds.

What is the bottom of the base made of? Will it scratch a wooden floor?

Originally posted and answered on chewy.com
Answer by ChewySep 12, 2025
The plush fabric wraps around the edge of the baseboard and covers about 1-2 inches of the perimeter under the baseboard. This is attached by staples, but the staples go through the plush fabric and into the baseboard and should not cause any concern to put this onto a hardwood floor.

Does the post tobble over? The base doesn't look very wide and my cat usually hobbles the smaller scratching post.. just don't want to come in down on her if it's heavier than the smaller one.

We own the same type of scratcher by SmartCat and no, it doesn't tip over. (I checked the dimensions, and this brand is actually a tiny bit bigger). The base is sturdy, and our cats can stretch up to their full length to use it. We were having a problem with one of our cats using our recliners to scratch, so we have a couple of these types of scratchers around our house. They don't use the top as a perch because they prefer their tree for that purpose.

In an effort to distract our 5 month old kitten from scratching my pretty new sofas, we decided to give this cat scratcher a go. She LOVED it, from day one, totally abandoned my sofas for this scratcher. Not only does she love to stretch out and scratch it, but she also loves sitting at the top on the platform, especially when she can bat my children as they walk by. Not only does she love it, but it's very nice quality, very sturdy and heavy duty and nice and tall so she can stretch wayyyy out into a long spaghetti noodle cat.

Great scratching post!

My cats love this post. Ever since I put it out, they stopped scratching the couch. It's high enough so they can stretch out too while they're scratching.

33.5 cat post

Not a bad product, however the sisal covering is not taught and the rug is coming out as my cat plays on it.

We bought this post along with a tall sisal-covered round post. Our 2 cats prefer this one by far. They use it all the time which means they don't scratch the couches or door-frame mouldings. The height is great - they both love to stretch as they scratch and it makes a perfect perch for them. As soon as they come back 'in stock', I'll be buying two more to place around the house.

I love how tall this is for my long cat and it's heavy enough that it doesn't tip over easily when both the big and small cat scratch on it. Neither cat is super jazzed about scratching on it. They use it but not vigorously like they do others and I think it's because of the material in place for scratching. It doesn't feel like sisal, it's more like a textured, plastic-y feeling material. My cats use this but not as often as I had hoped and more for just a passing scratch, like they do it because it's there, not because it's super satisfying for them. The top and base are that faux fur sort of fabric, which is also not my favorite for longevity. Overall, the quality of this is really good, especially with how sturdy it is, but my cats have minimal interest in it, I think due to the texture of the scratching material.

This tall scratching post is perfect. My cat can stretch out fully on it while scratching, which she seems to love. She uses it multiple times a day. And she climbs it (hasn’t been able to get past the top piece to get on top though). It is very sturdy, has a heavy base to keep it stable, and the sisal is substantial and is woven very well. This scratching post also looks great and blends in stylishly in my living room. Am really glad I made this purchase. Also, it was easy to assemble.

I rescued a kitty from the shelter a year ago. Little did I know she had been feral (clipped ear) and was captured for surgery but never released. She was adopted but the person returned her. My guess is she needed to time to become familiar with her new home and family. I brought her home and she hid for awhile and when there was food, she would snarf it down and then leave. It took about 6 months for her to get comfortable around us and now a year later, she is totally part of the family. She loves climbing the new scratching post and sitting on the top. It has a big base so it's stable for climbing. She uses her nails to climb and is so happy with it. My older cat uses the post to scratch her nails as our last one had seen better days. I think they like it because it's taller and they can see everything sitting on it. A good purchase.
