Frisco Wood & Metal Extra Wide Auto-close Dog Gate, 30-in, Expresso

I needed a dog gate for my new puppy and decided to spend a little bit more on this one which seemed like the more "premium" option compared to some of the other choices. Unfortunately, even though the gate no doubt looks good, the build quality certainly isn't premium. -Pros: The gate looks fantastic. The photos are pretty accurate to what you're getting so I feel like I got my money's worth there. My only nitpick would be that the brown wood gate (I went with the "Espresso" option) looks and feels closer to plastic than wood. It still looks great, just not 100% what I expected. The metal on the other hand feels very solid and well made. There were a few scuffs on it, but those seem to have buffed out with use. Cons- The auto-close mechanism is extremely disappointing. It took a ton of adjustment to get the gate to close with the right amount of force and the latch to fit securely. It's really a balancing act of having the latch loose enough so that the gate will auto-close but tight enough that you can't push right through it and the gate swings open and closed, opened and closed, open and closed, until it settles. I lived with it the way I just described for days but after some adjustment, it finally closes with one solid swing and instant latch like I originally expected. Another big con is that I really don't like the opener. It feels like incredibly cheap plastic that was taken off of a cheaper plastic model and does not feel at all like it belongs on the wood and metal gate. The buttons you need to squeeze on both sides are very "squishy" and occasionally get stuck. To open the gate you need to squeeze the buttons and slide the mechanism over and occasionally the sliding mechanism gets stuck and you need to help it slide back into place so that the gate closes and locks. For the money, I expected a much more solid build, especially on the part that you are handling multiple times on a daily basis. -Bottom Line: Good looking gate, disappointing build quality especially for the price.
