The ingredient refers to an "artificial smoke" liquid which is the end result of hardwoods burned at high temperatures. The particles are condensed to make this ingredient and is approved by the AAFCO guidelines. This is used for palatability purposes.

I've just heard in a review about Friskies Wet Cat foods aren't nutritional for our cats! A veteran doctor states that Friskies wet cat foods have more fillers in it, then having nutritional meats for the cats. Because big cats in the wild when these cats kill other animals always eat the organs first of their kills. And our domestic cats should be eating these organs as well. In order for the domestic cats too stay healthy also!
