This recipe contains 8.1% on a dry matter basis. The guaranteed analysis is provided on the package to give you a general idea of the nutrient content and lists minimum and or maximum nutrient levels. The dry matter basis is the nutrient content of the food with all the water removed and is the actual level of the nutrients in the product. Thus, we provide the dry matter basis since it is an exact amount of nutrient in the food.

This is the food my vet recommended for my diabetic dog. Since switching, his bg has finally stabilized. We are very happy with the lower fat, higher fiber content. And he actually loves the taste also!

Our Tessa has been eating this food for over 3 years. This bag must have been part of a bad batch. She would not touch it. We had to purchase another bag locally as we had traveled for the holiday. I plan to call so if there was a bat lot you can pull any others from shipping out.

We struggled finding a good food for him, because he had stomach problems. This food has been very good for him, and he has notbeen nearly as sick.

I have a 3yo, 7.5lb mini dachshund that lives a relatively active lifestyle. She goes for long daily walks in the city, and hikes several times a month. With her daily caloric allowance being so small, it was hard to find a food that was ACTUALLY low calorie, but still high quality. After months of using this food, I can safely say that it’s a winner. Lily remains strong, energetic, her coat is INCREDIBLY soft, no more constipation, and she even chews on her paws a lot less. More importantly, she has a healthy, lean body that her dr is happy with. And the best part as far as Lily’s POV goes, is she gets to eat a higher volume since it is low cal, so she stays full and never begs. :)

I had to switch to a light dog food when she started to gain too much weight from having to take 6 pills a day. The vet suggested this one. She has always been picky about eating and I had to coax her to eat her food and take her pill pockets by using cheese, chicken broth, canned food, liverwurst, and even sprinkling grated Parmesan/Romano cheese on them, which would work for a while and then she would want to refuse to eat again after the novelty wore off. I was surprised that she actually does eat this since I switched her to it. And I also switched her from Greenies pill pockets to Milk Bone pill pouches, which have fewer calories and she DOES like those without the extra junk, so she seems to have lost some weight. She is not a small dog, but likes the smaller nuggets, too.

I’ve been using this as my go-to kibble. My dog was pickier about other brands but has been excited every day for 7 years since I started Hills. Now I just wish the price wasn’t so steep but it’s been worth it, plus I’m pretty sure it’s the reason for his super shiny and soft coat.

Three stars only because my dog wouldn’t eat it

They have been going back-and-forth with my vet for weeks ordering Royal Canin vet formula food and my dog would not eat it and the kibbles were huge and I have a mini dachshund and she wouldn’t touch it so we tried a different one with what was supposed to be a smaller kibble according to the package, but it was triple the size of the first one we had so again she wouldn’t eat that. Chewy has been great with helping us out with that and trying to get the right food that she needs to help her lose weight. The vet recommended this one so I purchased it. It arrived yesterday, and I love the fact that it had the tiniest kibbles ever which I thought would make her very happy and I threw a couple on the floor when I first opened it to put it into her jar and she went up to him and sniffed and walk right away. So I took a mixture of the old food and the new food and put a little bit in the bowl and just left it there to see what she would do come dinner time. She still hadn’t eaten it. It had been sitting out for about four hours now so I then added additional in for dinner time just to see if maybe she’ll get hungry and she’ll eat if she’s hungry yep didn’t happen and got up this morning. Same thing wouldn’t touch her breakfast at all. The only reason I gave it was a three stars is because my dog wouldn’t eat it. I don’t think she’s ever had anything with barley in it before usually I just buy chicken flavored foods so another bag to be donated.
