The heating pad for this product should only take a few moments to feel the warmth.

Does the heating pad need an electrical outlet?

The heating pad does need an electrical outlet and this features a cord that is 5.5 feet long.

Is it safe out in snow or rain

This cat house can be used during snow and wind.

Can I use an extension cord with this? If not, how long is the cord?

Answer by ChewyDec 03, 2025
MET requires that all manufacturers put the extension cord statement “Do not use with extension cord” on every item that is MET listed by UL 499 standards. This is because they cannot test every extension cord on the market in conjunction with products for safety. Also, MET suggests that an extension cord is not recommended as a permanent fixture and should only be a temporary solution when using any electrical product. The cord is 5.5 feet long.

The Hilton

Purchased the smaller heated cat house years ago which my cat Schooner loves and uses all the time. I often thought it could be bigger and our dream came true.

Our 2 cats are very happy campers. They are indoor / outdoor cats. They love spending time outdoors but are not fans of our New England winter weather. We bought 2 houses so they each have their own special place. We placed them in our barn, with one cat door facing out the windows. They now have a personal place to hang out away from our house that's cozy and warm and out of the wind. Plus, they can still keep an eye on what's going on both in the barn and outside.

This heated cat (animal) shelter is super easy to assemble and to store away when the seasons change. Connected by Velcro, it all ends up laying flat for storage. I made sure to test it with a pillow before letting my cats use it like suggested and that worked perfectly as a test that the pad isn't getting too hot. The cord is a bit short for some applications, though. I got some catnip and spread a bit inside on the carpet-like material and had to set each cat inside with the roof partially open to get them to go in as they were a bit timid about the plastic "doggy" door on each side. Once they were inside, I let them come out of the door and then I set them back inside through the top and then it seemed that they learned how warm it was pretty quickly and proceeded to test out the entrance to get into it without me setting them in through the top. Highly recommend for any small outdoor animals needing some warmth. Thank you Chewy!

Once again I am 100% satisfied with my purchase from Chewy. I bought this cat house for my outside covered porch as we take care of a few feral neighborhood cats. Extremely easy to put together as you just use the attached Velcro to place pieces together. Sturdy, two exit/entrances, and very heavy durable material used. We put a plug in warming pad in the home and the outside cats are using at night which makes me very happy as it’s bitterly cold here. I highly recommend this product and the price can’t be beat.

Bought this for feral cats, so I raised it up on a homemade platform b/c it doesn't have that, but it could easily be put up higher with ease. Lightweight and the ingress/egress swinging plastic doors are heavy duty. I don't think its heavily insulated; however, I bought two others that came with stronger heaters, and even in 14 degree weather, many of the cats chose this one -- I think the others were too warm??? It easily fits several cats to snuggle comfortably.

We have a cat that comes to our front porch every day for food starting a few months ago. With the weather being below freezing often, we wanted him to have a warm place to go if he had nowhere else. He loves it, and it makes me feel better to know he has somewhere safe. (We would bring him in if we didn’t have 8 cats already)

It took our sweet ferrel tom cat a few days to get used to the house, but once he did, I think he had the best nights sleep he's ever experienced. We kept the top off for a few days as he acclimated to it, and last night he slept for 5 hours. Having the 2 doors is great, very spacious inside, and most importantly.......he loves it!!

Purchased two this week (definitely going to buy a couple more). Very easy to set up. I placed them in a little partially-covered area next to the garage. For extra insulation, I placed them on an extra thick yoga mat and put another yoga mat in front (sort of a lounging area for when they leave the house). I faced the "main entrance" towards the garage wall (so it doesn't get a direct breeze blowing in) and removed the door flap. I duct-taped the two door flaps together to create an extra-wide door flap and use that for the secondary entrance. The "secondary entrance" faces away from the garage wall. The now double-wide flap provides protection from direct breeze and also serves as a protected "window" when a cat (possum, etc) are inside. This is also a way for other cats to see if someone is already sleeping there without disturbing them. After setup, I sprinkled a little catnip inside (like a hotel mint on their pillow). Within hours of setting it up, our first guest stopped by for the night. This is the first night of freezing temperatures and I am so glad I did this.

We have 2 pet barn cats, more like farm cats, that come inside and get enclosed in their unheated patio (catio) at night. Our cats love this house! I love that they have a place that is heated and only when they need it. I feel so much morecomfortable knowing that they have an enclosed heated space that is safe. It’s much safer than the heating pad I used to use great price for the black Friday sale.
