What is the humane rating for the chicken? or is it free range or pasture raised or at least Cage free?

While we cannot guarantee that the the chicken/poultry used in the Merrick recipes are free range, Merrick purchases real meat from trusted farmers that uphold their safety and quality criteria. We can assure you they have a very close relationship with their suppliers and would never knowingly purchase from a supplier that did not treat the animals humanely. For them, proper animal handling is an important moral and ethical obligation. That's why they require all their suppliers to provide documentation about their policies and auditing practices. They look for suppliers who raise animals in humane ways. With this in mind, all animals used as protein sources in their products are processed according to USDA standards and regulations. USDA Officials are onsite visually monitoring the process. What would the next stage of this puppy food?

Once your pup enters the adult life stage, they should be transitioned to adult food. Merrick Backcountry Freeze-Dried Raw Dry Dog Food is also available in several formulas for adult dogs. A puppy is generally considered an adult when they stop growing taller. Typically for small breeds this is between 9-12 months, medium breeds around 12 months and large breeds closer to 15 months. We always encourage reaching out to your vet for the best results for your little one.

Chicken meal is made up of chicken that has been ground and cooked, reducing the fat content to create a protein-rich ingredient. It’s high in protein and amino acids to help strengthen and maintain your pet’s muscles. It’s also a high-quality source of glucosamine for joint health. Chicken meal does not include feathers, heads, feet or entrails.

This is the only food my dogs will eat, and I’ve tried most premium brands. The only issue I have is with the price, it’s a little too expensive.

Really good

My new puppies love this food! It is a little on the expensive side but worth it. Getting through chewy is slightly cheaper and convenient.

My puppy loves this food and we haven’t had any issues. The only concern with this grain-free option is that it’s higher in legumes (peas & pea protein), which may have a link to heart disease in dogs. While this isn’t ideal, this is still a better formula than most kibble out there. However because of this, I’m switching my puppy to the healthy grain option from Merrick

I just got a standard poodle puppy that is the pickiest puppy I ever had , she is not food driven as my other dogs the German Shorthairs , the breeder was feeding her food I would never feed any of my dogs so I had to switch . I did feed my adult dogs the back country for years but as they got older the protein was to much for them & since they were not as active they were gaining weight , so back to grain free Merick for them . Well back onto the puppy I tried 3 different brands of puppy food some with grain some with certain grains some grain free , puppy would eat for about a week or two & stop , so I added my home made dog food & bone broth & she just left the kibble , since I only add kiddle to my dogs diet just so they are getting the right nutrition & if we have an emergency & need to kennel them they are used to eating kibble . But Raven the puppy is so picky , now she did love the freeze dried bits but that is all what she would eat , but like other reviews the freeze dried bits seemed to be more powder then bits , she did like the hard kibble then spit out on the floor or back in her bowl , so now I don't give her hard kibble she is on a different freeze dried food along with my home made .
