The height of this mat is approximately 5.52 inches.

Is this mat water proof? Does it absorb liquid or keep it on top?

This canvas bottom is water resistant, not water proof. Liquid may remain on top for easier cleaning.

We foster puppies and this is the best thing to have with their playpen, it’s durable, easy to clean, easy to fold-up to put away, and does a great job protecting my floors. Definitely be aware that it stains pretty easily, so I use washable and disposable pee pads with the cover. Also, if you have puppies that love to chew, the Velcro that keeps it secured to the playpen is pretty easy for them to get to, so it does start to fray pretty quickly. These weren’t deal breakers for me and my first one lasted for 3 years and 50 puppies. I’m hoping my second one lasts just as long!!
