This scratcher is made of durable cardboard however, it will eventually tear apart as the cat scratches on it. The scratcher is two-sided for an even longer lasting use.

The cat loves this! I bought it on a whim, delighted that not only did he immediately take to it, he lost all interest in sharpening his claws on anything else. The furniture is happy. I'm happy. He's happy. Construction is sturdy. The insert is two-sided, so when the first is shredded, you pull it out & flip it. Once that too is shredded, I cut the insert across the middle, turn the shredded ends to the center, and he goes to town on the "new" sections. It lasts. And once demolished, it goes into the recycling bin. Doesn't get any better than that. My cat was indifferent to the catnip; he pounced on the thing before I'd even opened the catnip bag. But your cat might need it as encouragement.
