The amounts in the table are intended as guidelines only. The food intake should be adjusted according to the age, weight, breed, temperature, climate and activity level of your dog. Consult a veterinarian for specific weight recommendations.
Adult dogs should be fed either once or twice per day. When you first start feeding Natural Balance® L.I.D. Limited Ingredient Diet Dry Dog Food, we suggest starting with the amounts recommended in the table. Energy requirements vary with environmental conditions, temperature and activity of your dog. The amount of food should always be adjusted to suit your dog's needs.
For pregnant females: A minimal increase is needed during the first 6 weeks. Increase the amount fed up to 25% during weeks 7, 8, and 9. For lactating females: Immediately after whelping, the nutritional demand increases by 50% compared to maintenance levels. Feed in 3 equal meals per day. For working dogs: Based on the work your dog will be asked to perform, the nutritional requirements will vary accordingly. As the workload increases, the demand for protein and fat increases proportionally. Dogs in hard training will generally require twice the maintenance levels. For older dogs: As your dog begins to age, his energy expenditure will decrease. Decreasing the amount of food accordingly will allow for the maintenance of proper body weight for a less active dog.
Remember, fresh clean water should be available at all times!
When switching your dog's diet, we recommend that it be done gradually over a 7-10 day period. Replace 25% of the current diet with the new diet, every 2 - 3 days until they are fully transitioned.

We have exclusively used this dog food for the last 1.5 years. It was the only thing my GSD could put weight on with - she has a severe chicken allergy. The last few bags the kibble has looked and smelled different. More notable than that, my girls both got terrible diarrhea that required going out every couple hours in the middle of the night and accidents around the house. We observed increased thirst and urination with our husky. I opened the last bag I had on hand this morning and the food was clumped together as other reviews have mentioned. We will be moving to a completely different food as I’ve lost trust in this brand for being a safe option.

I switched my dogs to the Natural Balance sweet potato and venison in mid October. I have used the chicken and sweet potato in the past with these dogs and prior dogs with no issue. My 2 year old male boxer started drinking excessive amounts of water and needing to urinate frequently. He was also leaking urine during his naps and overnight starting 2 weeks ago. I scheduled a vet appointment. We did blood work which came back with elevated kidney levels. He also had a urine test which came back with high protein levels. He has never had any issues these past two years until now. We have an abdominal ultrasound scheduled in 2 weeks. Last night I started doing research on the food. I don’t know what made me even think to do that to be honest. I saw a review from a woman named Beverly dated 12/31/25. She explained the exact same symptoms that my dog was having. Needless to say we have stopped the food completely and are giving them a bland diet. I’m hoping this will correct the problem. I’m going to ask the vet to rerun the tests in a week or so to check the levels again. Also, I did notice changes in the food the last couple bags, darker color and food clumps stuck together.

My dog has been doing great on this food until the last couple of bags. Like others mentioned, a couple of bags ago, I noticed the food was a darker color. My dog became so sick I had to take her to the vet. She got a little better and, at the time, I didn't realize it was the food because she was always eager to eat it. When she started this last bag of food, she began drinking excessive amounts of water, wanted to go outside to urinate every few minutes and even started leaving pools of urine where she napped. I finally realized this new behavior had begun when she began this most recent bag of food. I switched her to boiled chicken and rice and she immediately went back to drinking a normal amount of water and there have been no further accidents in the house. It's so disappointing to find a food that works for your dog only to have the quality go downhill. Now I have to find another food that will work for her allergies.

My pup is strong and healthy. She still runs around like she’s not 10 years old. She loves the venison flavor the best so that’s what we’ve stuck to. We’ve never had a problem with this brand, and when we recently moved and shifted to using Chewy it’s been so nice not having to worry about when to go out and pick up her food. It comes every 5-ish weeks which is perfect for our girl with still plenty for back up incase of delay.

However, the last couple bags she's been drinking excessive amounts of water and urinating in her sleep. After seeing other reviews with the same problem, we are switching foods.

We immediately noticed his allergic reaction symptoms- sneezing, drooling, coughing, throwing up. I’m not sure what changed but this is no longer safe for sensitive dogs.
