My dog loves these but he has just been diagnosed with kidney problems. Can you tell me what the phosphorus and protein percentage is? I believe that is the important numbers that I’m supposed to check. Thank you.

The protein content of these treats is approximately 4%. These treats do not contain any added vitamins or minerals so there is a very minimal phosphorous content, if any in each treat.

Can I give the small bones to my dog that is 47 pounds? Or are they intended for Small dogs only

Yes, you COULD give this Nylabone treat to a larger dog, but I’d be careful. I have a 8 mos old German Shepherd puppy (85 lbs) whom I CANNOT give these treats to without DIRECT supervision because he inhales treats... I would not want this to become lodged in his windpipe! I give these to my 15 lb & 16 lb dogs and it is quite a perfect large treat for them. Honestly, it depends upon your dog’s behavior... if they gobble their cookies, go up to an appropriate size. If they are a gentle nibbler, then perhaps it’d be ok under your supervision.

So, I love these bones and this brand, but i did not foresee that my little pup would be able to bite the knobby end off and proceed to choke on it. Thank goodness I saw what was happening and it came flying out his mouth when I grabbed him. Just be aware that these have large knobby ends and that they might be a choking hazard if a smaller dog gets ahold of them. My one chi is 5 lbs. But the other two chihuahuas, including the one that almost choked on it, are both 3 lb. My 5lb chi loved them and had no real issue with it, but then again, she also chews her food before swallowing. Not good for dogs that just bite off a piece and swallow whole.
