Do you need filters if you have filtered water?

Even if filtered water is used, a filter should be used with the fountain as it removes hair, dirt and debris that enters the fountain as your pet drinks. The filter contains granulated carbon for extended filtration and the duo density polyester pad captures debris. Filters should be replaced every 2 weeks, in general, depending on usage.

What is the difference between the charcoal filters and carbon filters?

The primary difference between a water filter that uses activated carbon and one that uses charcoal is in the filtering materials themselves. Both are hard, porous substances that capture contaminants.

I just changed the filter on my fountain and as soon as I turned it on, the water came out and was tinted BLACK! Are these safe?!

These charcoal filters must be rinsed thoroughly prior to installation in the pet fountain. A small amount of charcoal dust may shed for the life of the filter. This is normal and is not harmful to your pet.

This fountain didnt last a year and a half. I cleaned it out every week and took good care of it. There must have been a coating on it that seems to have started to come off and today when I cleaned it the motor died. I could replace the motor but honestly the steel becoming tarnished and the coating coming off is a turn off

It lasted 1 day. My floors were freshly cleaned. Cat hair wrapped around the wheels and it quit running, the tongue fell off. To say I was disappointed is a total understatement. I really felt my kitties would get so much enjoyment out of it. Why make a toy for cats that have hair, when hair can cause it to break almost immediately!! Truly disappointed. Wish I had bought a laser toy instead.

These work great

I've been using these for years. They go with the water fountain we bought. Every time I change the water my cat is waiting for the freshness.

Perfect for two cats.

Wonderful. I only need to change water and clean it once a week as long as filter is new.

More trouble than value

Taking it apart and cleaning it was a hassle. Still have a part that I don't know were it goes. I now use a bowl which can quickly be wash and refilled.

These filters do their job well. However, I would have given them more stars if they were refillable. They are disposable only. Too much plastic ending up in our environment. It would be easy for them to have a screw on/off top so they could be refilled with fresh charcoal.
