This fountain is not battery-powered, it has a plug-in power cord. The bowl design allows pets to still have access to water even if the power goes out.

For the Drinkwell multi-tier ountain, will the premium carbon filters work as well as the regular carbon filters?

The premium filters will work even better, as the smaller but more numerous pockets prevent the carbon from settling toward the bottom of the filter when wet. So the premium version will work and provide better filtration.

Chewy, please remove this piece of junk from your site and dump the lousy company that manufactures this lousy water bowl.

The issue is that the tube connecting the base to the top is hard to clean, and small bits of dirt or mold seem to come out, no matter how thoroughly I clean it with a small straw cleaner. I will likely be purchasing a different fountain that is easier to keep clean.
