It is recommended to change the tray every 20-30 days if using for one cat only. For more than one cat, change it every 10-15 days or sooner if needed. When the waste trap is full, simply throw away the entire tray and load a new disposable crystal litter tray.

Can this litter box be used with other scopable litters or does it only work with the crystal litter?

This Self-Cleaning Litter Box was designed for use with one or two cats, but it is recommended to have one more litter box than cats.

The design of this litter box is great. I love the ease of having replaceable litter cartridges that basically eliminate scooping and mess. Just lift the litter box off the cartridge, close the lid of the cartridge, and through it away (note: I'm using the word "cartridge" to describe the crystal-filled cardboard box tray). The smell is contained, the litter box is consistently clean, and the cats are generally using it. I took away one star because I'd like a bigger sized box, especially when the lid is on, for my Maine Coon.

I LOVE THIS!!! It took awhile for my cat to use it, but I followed their suggestions and he eventually used it and it has been SOOOO easy since then. I would never go back to the old scoop way....no muss no fuss - even when changing the tray - there is no clouds it's basically lift change reset the top and you're done...one of the best gifts I have given myself!!! My cat likes his clean (every time) litter box too!

I guess I was lucky, because I've had this for 6 years and it's still going strong. It recently started making a few squeaky sounds when the rake moves, but that's only been in the last few months. I have rarely ever had cat poop stuck in the rake, and it always scoops the poop to the end and under the flap. This definitely keeps odor down. This makes my life easy. I only have to change to a new litter tray about every 3 weeks with one cat. Now, I have 2 cats, and I have to put a new litter tray in about every 1 1/2-2 weeks. I always sprinkle baking soda in the bottom of each new tray and a little each week. The convenience is the best selling point. The only issues I have now are the manufacturer has definitely decreased the amount of litter to put in the trays. I know, because I've been using them for years. Also, the price for them has nearly doubled which is not easy on the wallet. I guess I'll have to decide if the convenience is worth the price to continue using this system. It's been great!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a wonderful litter box that provides self cleaning for maximum sanitation. For my personal experience, I’m rating it 4 out of 5 due to the size, I underestimated my cat sizes which is my mistake! The only downside is the actual size of the litter box, we have multiple cats that are on the larger size and they can squeeze in, but ultimately they have trouble maneuvering around the box. I would suggest this for cats on the smaller size, even young cats/kittens, but for safety not to have the box plugged in for the automated cleaning/sifting (per the directions) until they’ve grown accustomed to the cleaning cycle and are larger for safety The refillable trays are convenient and easy to install or remove. There are suggestions on changing the trays based on how many cats you have as well, which serves as a great guide. Setup took about 5 minutes including removing everything from the box, the quality is great, and it’s very easy to clean! The crystal litter is new for us, over time I still see myself sweeping debris multiple times a day, but that’s expected for any type of cat litter. Pictured is our smallest adult cat, she is about 6 pounds for reference.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Well this does work as expected IF i do not put the lid under the litter tray as stated. with it on, the lid part does not stay sitting under notches so does not work right.. with litter tray lid not under litter tray, the litter box works flawlessly… Also this needs to be in at least a semi lighted area or the sensor will not pick up that a cat using litter box. i put this in a litter closet and it did not get cleaned first day, i ended up having to put motion sensing lights on door above the cat entrance door so it comes on when they go in to use box, this setup has been perfect.. CONS: there are some issues with this auto litter box. One being that the rake sits about 1/4 inch above litter box bottom, so nothing under it gets sifted and this allows for urine to collect and pool there, if you have cats that like to clean/remove litter for a spot to use, this urine will end up on their paws.. another issue, the litter sits behind the rake about an inch or so, this litter stays clean and unused the whole time.. no other cons other than i think getting the PetSafe auto box that you can use a clumping litter like my preferred grass seed liter, would be a better choice.. the crystals in this one get dirty too fast, sit on top yellowish and i’m worried that this could result in UTIs with our low squatters.. overall, it has been nice not having to clean the litterbox in this litter closet daily.. am thinking of getting the version that allows me to ise frisco unscented grass seed litter now..
