The Labrador breeder uses Purina Pro Plan, Sport for all her labs and they are beautiful, healthy dogs even the older labs who are past their prime. So we decided to continue feeding our puppy this keeble. She is an eager eater and enjoys every morsel. Even cleans up after herself if any happen to pop out of her bowl!

Purina Pro Plan Sport Performance 30/20 Chicken and Rice I have a kennel and have used this food extensively across multiple life stages. Pros Very low stool output Excellent for pregnant and nursing females Dams maintain weight well through lactation Able to start and finish whelping without issues Decent litter sizes and overall reproductive outcomes Mothers are generally calm and settled Less feed needed overall due to high caloric density Weaned puppies have good stools on this food Cons Tends to produce a soft body condition in some dogs Poor muscle to fat ratio compared to other formulas Some dogs gain fat very easily Several dogs seem less satiated, with begging and frantic food behavior despite the higher calorie load Requires much stricter monitoring for weight and condition in certain individuals Coat quality has been inconsistent. Some dogs become greasier, some coats feel rougher, and several seem to hold dirt more than on other feeds Puppies that can free feed appropriately on other puppy foods cannot do so on this formula without gaining excess weight Overall I am torn. This food has real strengths, especially for pregnancy, whelping, and lactation, and I will continue to use it for those purposes. However, for long term maintenance across my kennel, some dogs do not manage body composition or coat quality as well on this formula as they do on others. I will likely use this for pregnant and nursing females and send puppies home on it, but avoid it as a one size fits all maintenance food.

I have used this food for 5 years and no problems, until the last one. My dog vomited every time we gave her the food from the bag I got. After working with the vet bland diet and getting a new bag of the same, everything seems to be better for about a week now. I hope one bad bag was the only problems.

This food is way more affordable than you think, the last time I did the math it was closer in cost to purina one line diets on a per calorie basis than other pro plan diets. The caloric density means it's great for dogs that would need cups and cups of less calorie dense diets and either don't thrive on large volumes of food or are a bloat risk. My german shepherd has done great on it, only changing foods because she no longer needs so many calories as a spayed adult and it's more convenient to feed one brand.

My dog experiencedGI effects of soft stools after the first feeding of the Purina pro plan, in which a small amount of purina was mixed with the food she has been eating. I’m going to feed her familiar food to her another couple of weeks and try again, and I’m hopeful she’ll be able to make the transition.

After reading so many articles concerning the different types of dog foods with good and bad reviews, I think I have finally found the best one. My dogs seem to enjoy it, and I still add fresh vegetables to their meals. It's taking some time to figure out the best amount to feed them with out over feeding. It's only been a month, but I'm happy with the possibilities.
