Why Carrageenan in the cat wet food?

The carrageenan in Royal Canin canned products is a carbohydrate used as a thickening agent to maintain the texture of canned products. Carrageenan is a greatly misunderstood ingredient. The FDA and AAFCO recognize carrageenan as an acceptable ingredient to be used in pet food.

Is the food in these pouches the same as the Instinctive thin slices cans? Is this just a repackaging or a new food? Thanks!

The ingredients in this food will slightly differ in order to preserve better in a pouch versus a can.

What is the calcium and phosphorus content on both as-fed and dry matter basis?

On an as fed basis, this formula contains approximately 0.18% calcium and 0.17% phosphorous. On a dry matter basis, this formula contains approximately 1% calcium and 0.90% phosphorous.

Foster mom here. I had a severely under nourished cat stay with us. She was a bit of a picky eater. She loved this food. It had enough nutrients and fats to fill her with out her having to over eat and vomit. She quickly put on weight and her fur became very nice. This food was instrumental in her recovery. Our regular, full time cared for cat also loved the food. She is still on it. The cans are small. We go thru a number of cans, but the food is always fresh and with the smaller cans, there is no food waste.

LucyLou won’t eat this. She doesn’t like the taste evidently. I wanted a high quality food for her but this one isn’t it. I donated the rest to our other fosters

For years I thought my cat didn't like wet food - wouldn't touch it. Well, that was because I was putting out the cheap stuff. So, he supplemented his carnivore cravings by killing/eating mice and other creatures. After purchasing this, he screams for this in the morning until he gets fed and he eats a whole package himself morning and night. Loves it! I'm hoping it will satisfy him enough to stop bringing dead rodents into my house!
