Is the Animal Plasma in this cooked? From what animal is the Plasma from?

Originally posted and answered on chewy.com
Answer by Chewy • Jul 03, 2025
The animal plasma is from pork. It is dried porcine plasma protein (pork blood). Plasma is used as a source of protein, a palatant and for these products also for texture. The term animal is used as it may be sourced from beef or pork, and in Sheba's products the source is porcine. The highly palatable ingredient is sourced from a process where the liquid portion of blood is separated from plasma, which is spray dried. In addition to serving as a palatant, plasma is commonly used in the pet food industry as a source of protein, as a binder to help hold meat chunks together, and as a source of vitamins, mineral,s and amino acids.

Chicken Alfredo

Received a sample in the mail. Both cats loved it and were coming back for more. Bonus that it is made without grain, corn, wheat or soy.

I iriginalky bought this for Baby, my honey-colored Tiger. He ravenously ate his Alfredo daily along with his dry food and Churu treats. 2 years later, he has tired of it and now I am using it up on the neighbor's cat, Simon, who comes over for his "blue plate special", which, of course, I serve to him on a blue willow saucer.

I don't typically use "alfredo" and "healthy" in the same sentence; so, I'm fairly certain that there are healthier selections of cat food out there, including many in the Sheba line. Still, the cats really like both the chicken and salmon Bistro varieties; and their pickiness has them choosing this over the others. We have been alternating these Sheba Bistro flavors with a few from two other brands, plus supplementing the wet food with a bit of dry food since it's more cost-effective to do so. My biggest complaint with all of the Sheba Perfect Portions rests with how hard it is to get the packages open ... the company really needs to work on this, as everyone that we know who buys them says the same thing. People who are older or who have health issues such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, etc. will favor a different brand that's easier to open, regardless of how much the cats like the product, including us.
