Essence's Quality Control & Production team makes sure that their recipes go through top-down inspections and examinations that take place on ingredients on a daily basis, including but not limited to pest control, food safety, heavy metals, pathogens, contamination, and pesticides. Furthermore, they test their food for mercury levels, metals, and other toxins, and they test their food before, during, and after production to ensure the product is up to their standards.

All of the Original Essence dog food recipes have Selenium Yeast and the L.I.R. Essence dog food recipes use Sodium Selenite. In the use of Sodium Selenite, it is only used to supply trace amounts of selenium and is strictly measured as is all our vitamins and minerals that go into our products. Too much of any mineral is toxic but the levels of Selenium Selenite are so low that it will not cause any kind of toxicity. All of Essence products are made with great care with only quality ingredients being used to make their pet food.

This kibble has been a godsend for my Aussie!! He has multiple food insensitivities, and had constant diarrhea before I had him diagnosed and totally changed his menu. Now his stool is perfect and his incontinence is remedied. And he loves this kibble. One of the no-nos I had been feeding was salmon. This kibble has various ocean fishes but no salmon, which is very hard to find. Considering it's been out of stock once or twice, I just hope they don't ever discontinue it. I also wish they would offer a 15 lb. bag, because a 20 lb. bag is too large for 1 dog (won't stay fresh), so I have to buy two 4 lb. bags at a time, which is costly. (My other dog is on a different kibble.)

Mona loves this dog food. She is a tiny dog - so the kibble size was perfect for her. As the mom of a canine with severe food allergies it is often difficult to find nutritious food for her. White fish is one of the proteins she can eat - but often it is combined with salmon or grains or filler legumes - she can not eat any of these. The essence Ocean recipe - so far - has been tolerated well. No scratching, face rubbing, etc. hopefully that continues to be the case.
