Great choice for fish loving kitties

By AmyDay on Nov 16, 2020

I got it for my picky older cat who has recently been diagnosed with CKD. He doesn't like most wet foods- he's really only ever eaten one consistently but it's higher in phosphorus than he should really be eating now with the CKD diagnosis and it would be really good for him to have some wet food in I got it for my picky older cat who has recently been diagnosed with CKD. He doesn't like most wet foods- he's really only ever eaten one consistently but it's higher in phosphorus than he should really be eating now with the CKD diagnosis and it would be really good for him to have some wet food in his diet (not just dry) so I've been trying out a few new ones. It seems like it's specifically mackerel that he likes. He thinks this one is "ok" (I suspect not enough mackerel compared to sardines & shrimp for his taste). He doesn't outright reject it but he won't eat much of it at a time, maybe 20 grams or so. It has some pretty large chunks of fish which he won't eat at all unless I break them up first, and some whole shrimp which he doesn't care for at all. I'd consider sticking with this one a little bit longer to see if it grows on him, except that it's also pretty low calorie (about 100 calories for the 5.5 oz can) so even if he starts to appreciate it more I'd worry that he just wouldn't be eating enough overall between this and his kibble to maintain his weight. My other cat, however, is not at all picky and the low calorie aspect is probably good for her- I've yet to find the upper limit of how much food I can put in front of her without her scarfing it all down in one go, so it's kind of nice to be able to feed her almost an entire can at once without going overboard on calories. I have these in her wet food rotation now, and give some to my CKD cat whenever she eats it, but probably won't buy it again. … more

    Cats say meh

By Heather on Feb 17, 2021

I got this when it was on sale, hoping that the cats would enjoy it. They tend to be big fans of mackerel, and somewhat of sardines. They seem pretty meh about it. They eat about 2/3 of the can if I'm lucky, and most of that seems to take the form of licking the goop off the meat. Given that the price I got this when it was on sale, hoping that the cats would enjoy it. They tend to be big fans of mackerel, and somewhat of sardines. They seem pretty meh about it. They eat about 2/3 of the can if I'm lucky, and most of that seems to take the form of licking the goop off the meat. Given that the price is a little on the steeper end, it's unlikely I would have bought it again without a sale, but it's disappointing to have to write off yet another fish wet food that is poultry free. … more

    Not enthused

Not one of my four cats especially likes this flavor. Most will eat it but only when very hungry. It may have to do with the consistency as much as the flavor because there is no broth, it is simply a gelatinous blob. The cats do like some of the other Adore recipes alot especially: Tuna, Chicken and Mackerel AND Tuna, Chicken and Whitefish

    Loooove this food!!!!

My Russian Blue LOVES this. She usually only wants extremely wet pates or morsels in lots of gravy, but she will eat the heck out of these morsels whether or not she licks the gravy away. Really excellent feeding times now! (We usually do Purina One or Pro Plan for mornings and Royal Canin for a treat due to expense, but I think Canidae is going to make its way into our “expensive feast” rotation :))

Finally, a clean food they will eat!

I hate feeding my 3 cats food that is advertised as wholesome and clean but looks like a gelatinous, semi-pink, strange color of a mess....and stinks...like too much to be ok. Canidae is a legitimate, high end, quality food. I'm impressed because of the consistency, too. Every time I open a can of sardine & mackerel, the chunks of meat of the two are very consistent...I mean, there is never a can where you're cheated and get a bunch of gravy. Also, it's ACTUALLY meat, not questionable compressed protein material that's all rubbery. My cats have never grown tired of this food either and they never pass it up... always excited to eat. I totally recommend this food. … more

    Not sure if recommend....

My fussy kitties won't eat this unless I mask it up and make a real stew of it... Even THEN, it's hit or miss! My 18 year old is getting fussier by the day (AND thinner, too). I feel him bits of this and that ALL DAY LONG.... I've tried so many different things for him... I just don't know WHAT to do.... My l'il girlie, feral made (somewhat) tame, is troublesome also. It's so difficult. I live with my 95 and 98 year old parents, and THEY are EXTRAORDINARILY fussy... can't give THEM good they will eat, EITHER.... my paws are tied.... This whole covid mess has got everyone's appetite in a turmoil... (Maybe it's just ME). Anyway, this food is going down, most days, so far, so good, I guess. Trying a new brand of Canidae

    By on

My cat is very finicky about what he eats, and sometimes he gets tired of two different Canidae foods I feed him. I decided to try the Sardine & Mackerel in Broth Canned Food as a new meal for him. He hates it. It can sit in his dish all day and won't touch it. I'm stuck with a case of this item, but at least I know to never order this type again.
