Feed Pregnant Dogs up to 50% more during the last 3 weeks of pregnancy. During Lactation and Puppies up to 6 months old, require twice the amount of food as an Adult dog and they should be fed 3 - 4 times a day. Puppies, 6 months to a year, twice daily. Senior and Overweight Dogs may be fed a reduced amount, depending on the dog's weight and activity level. The above Daily Feeding Guidelines are a good starting point on the amount of food suggested to be fed on a daily basis. If you feed more than once per day, simply divide the Daily Feeding Guidelines by the amount of times fed per day. Fresh water should be available at all times.

Transition Instructions

We have found that the smoothest transition from one dog food to another is to mix the foods together. When changing to CANIDAE some dogs may do better by making a gradual transition over 7 - 10 days. Start with 25% of the new food mixed with 75% of the previous diet and gradually increase the new while decreasing the previous until the transition is complete

  • Great product!

This product was recommended by the breeder after I mentioned what was happening with the brand my dog was consuming. I put Kurt on Halo's ever since I got him as I believed their advertising. Recently, Halo's changed the food to holistic - which I had no problem with - however, they lowered the contents and raised the price to the point I could not afford it. • Doing well on this food

    By on

I have two different breeds on this food (a hound mix and a Bernese) which seem to be doing well on it. I haven’t noticed too much of a difference with their coats on this though. The only complaint I have so far is that it does make their stool softer. My dogs are used to getting people food every now and then but with this food I can not give them any type of people food, if I do their stool is runny. I might try them on the Eagle brand to see if it would be any better with their stool, after reading reviews both are pretty comparable with the exception of dog’s choice in taste.

  • Poor Reaction

    By on

I have had my dog on Canidae for a while, and it is really a good food, but in the past 3-4 months he started to itch constantly, develop red spots on his stomach, and have black-head type thing present. Literally the last thing I went through and ruled out was the food, because Canidae is held in such high regard. That said, after consulting with the vet, I switched him to a food that used one protein, Blue Buffalo Chicken and Rice, and his problems dramatically improved within a week. His scratching greatly diminished and the red bumps and black head type things on his stomach have gone away. Unfortunately this happened early into my 44lbs bag, but in the future I will stay away from using I have had my dog on Canidae for a while, and it is really a good food, but in the past 3-4 months he started to itch constantly, develop red spots on his stomach, and have black-head type thing present. • Canidae is a great food for your dog

    By on

I have had dogs for almost all of my 40 years, and have used so many different foods over the years. The problem with dog food is that the cheap stuff is made of bad ingredients, and then really good natural stuff is $5 a pound and unaffordable. I found Canidae about 5 years ago and have used it ever since. Canidae is a great made food with real quality ingredients, and is priced around $2 a pound. It was great for my last dog with the adult food, and then I swapped to senior for her last couple of years. After she passed away I was bummed out that I would have to again do an extensive search for a new food, but then I found out that Canidae recently started making puppy food. With coupons I have gotten it cheaper. Overall though Canidae does get my highest recommendation!! … more

  • Tried as a substitute for Fromm's - did not work for us.

    By on

I've been looking for a replacement food since Chewy discontinued Fromm's and chose this Canidae based on the positive reviews. We have an 11 year old golden retriever with a cast iron stomach, and a recently acquired ~2 year old golden rescue. While they both really like it (and something about the size and shape of the crunchies makes them slow down a bit!), our rescue seems to be allergic to it. We've had sneezing, coughing/hacking, increased water consumption - resulting in urination in the house (not a previous problem), and the grand finale: projectile vomit! I'm not sure what ingredient is causing this reaction, but unfortunately, it is not working for us.

  • I love this food!

    By on

This food is great! I’m a momma of four female pittbulls who all are different ages and all have different appetites and all four of them love the canidae food! The 44 lb bag does wonders especially for the price. If they ever decided to make a larger bag that would be awesome!

  • Great food

    By on

I ran out of my food I had been feeding my dog who is now 10 faithfully. He has food allergies and the clerk was nice enough to help us find a food close in ingredients. I also have a 1 year old rescue. They both loved it the food is small enough for both of them. There is no skin issues and they both love it.

  • So far, so good

    By on

I've been feeding Canidae to both my dogs for a year or more. Life Stages is a bit less expensive than the other formulas, so I wanted to give it a try. It's still high quality and low output, and both my dogs--the hungry one and the picky one--are happy. (I always have to add some sort of treat on top for the picky eater, no matter how great the food.)

  • Like the smaller kibble size

    By on

This food is good, and I like that it comes in a 30lb size. That just works out better on my 3 week order schedule. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because my dogs did not prefer the taste over other brands I use. One dog actually leaves some in his bowl. That usually never happens. Maybe I just need to try a different flavor.
