Senior and less active dogs may be fed a reduced amount, depending on the dog's weight and activity level. Grain free diets may not be suitable for all dogs. If you have any dietary concerns, please consult with your veterinarian.
The Daily Feeding Guidelines are a good starting point on the amount of food to be fed on a daily basis. Individual pets may require more or less food. Always provide plenty of fresh water.
When changing to CANIDAE® Grain Free PURE Ancestral™ Fish Formula, some dogs may do better by making a gradual transition over 7-10 days. Start with 25% of the new food mixed with 75% of the previous diet and gradually increase the new while decreasing the previous until the transition is complete.
CANIDAE® Grain Free PURE Ancestral™ Fish Formula is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for maintenance.

My dog loves the taste of this food however he consistently throws up yellow bile so I had to get something else.
The refills are kind of expensive, as others have said, but my 2 yr old Aussie LOVES these - she likes the peanut butter flavor best. She picks the toy up then drops it (loudly!) on the hardwood floor or she drops the “empty” toy in my lap to let me know she needs a refill. I only refill it once a day, to make it last a bit longer, but sometimes I cave if she’s been extra good….sigh…
Yes, It has a fishy smell, but its not unpleasant. My dogs love it and it takes less to feed them. That helps with the costs.Of course its been discontinued. So that doesn't help at all.
My 2 year old Mal is allergic to just the right combination of ingredients and this is literally the ONLY food that contains nothing he’s allergic to. He likes it, but he likes everything. I don’t have any sort of horrible fishy smell like others claim. It’s a fish based food, yes it has a smell but nothing out of the ordinary. My only complaint is I wish the size of the kibble was bigger. Oh, and I wish it was cheaper, but hey what can you do? I have no other choice.
I have a somewhat picky GSD, so I intentionally seek out kibble with freeze-dried raw bits because it is as close to a raw diet I can afford right now. The first bag was great with tons of little freeze-dried bits in it. It was his favorite part and usually the first thing he picked out of his bowl. The second bag I received did not include any of those freeze-dried bits. Kinda odd, he still picks at the kibble and will eventually eat it but he is no longer excited about it without the freeze-dried bits. Maybe I just got a fluke bag, but if I wanted just kibble there are other options that I could have gone with that would be just as good for him without such a hit to the wallet.
I was so excited to order this food but it sat in my dogs dishes. I am going to try something else or get ground turkey necks from my local butcher to add to it.
I wanted to my dog to like this food. He's a husky mix and loves fish so we always get the salmon Canidae. I like their brand he's been eating the Salmon and Sweet Potato mix for 2 years straight. We used to switch between Taste of the Wild and his Candiae favorite before for variety. However, my pooch loves fish and did not like this food. He tipped it over nearly every day. Also there were quite a few crumbs in the bag even towards the top, not sure if it's from the freeze dry process or just the bag we got. It was more expensive too for a smaller bag which isn't ideal. We tried it out, it wasn't for us. Dog doesn't approve.
Much Gratitude! My 13 year old labs love this food!!! We had them on a special prescription allergy dog food for several months and it didn't help. Their allergies actually seemed to get worse! Did a little research and this dog food came up as recommended for dogs with allergies. Both dogs itching has significantly improved and their raw inflamed skin sores are healing. One had been having a really hard time eating and swallowing food without choking and puking it back up and she's had no problems with any of that with this food. I was worried because this is a smaller kibble and I didn't want her to inhale it and choke, but she's not choked at all or vomited with this food. Both dogs seem to have more energy. Their coats feel softer and look shinier. They don't have any problems with their stools, just solid and healthy. The food smells fishy, but it's not unbearable. I have a very sensitive sense of smell and a quick gag reflex and I've had no problems with this food's fish smell. Highly recommend! Praise the Lord for this miracle fish dog food! Thank you!
My dog Daphne does amazing on this food she looks like she has been dipped in oil, she eats it without fuss and I can tell she is being nourished from the inside out
Great quality with that extra flavor of a raw coating. Our dogs loved it.
