    You gotta wash it!

By Kikilulu on Nov 25, 2021

A lot of people are complaining about how cloudy the water gets after dumping this in. Which makes sense because it says to prewash and you will get much better results. Each bag comes with clarifier, I took mine and set aside for after the washing. I was making a new tank so I had the luxury of no time constraints. So Friday the 2 bags arrived (as scheduled, thanks chewy) and I soaked one in a big paint bucket for about 24 hours. I’d fillip the bucket mix it up let it settle, dump what was on top, rinse and repeat. Probably did this 3-4 times, then added to tank. Did the same with the next bag and had everything in by Sunday night (I also work weekends so it’s not like an all day affair) you A lot of people are complaining about how cloudy the water gets after dumping this in. Did the same with the next bag and had everything in by Sunday night (I also work weekends so it’s not like an all day affair) you def could have done what I did in a much shorter time frame, but I think the soaking helped extract a lot of that micro dust. Once both bags were in, I filled the tank with water mixing up all the sand and it got cloudy/murky. I threw the two clarifier packs in went to bed and let the filter go to work. Woke up to a picturesque aquarium. The sand is great, it’s really fine so embedding plants, decorations, etc. is very easy and the white is a nice light color. Sure there’s some imperfections in it, but it looks really nice. Brightened up the tank, and sent my decorations into a whole new more natural direction. … more

    awesome product

By bigpapi on Mar 15, 2021

I bought 5 bags for my 90 gallon aquarium and it is absolutely stunning. The color is a natural light nude color. I read some reviews from people saying it was too cloudy but they did not mention if they washed it or just added it to the tank. I washed the sand thoroughly before adding it to my tank which minimized the cloudiness. I was able to see through my tank within 15 minutes, not perfectly clear but that’s expected since it is being mixed and needs to settle. This was very easy to do and only took roughly 30 minutes from starting to clean to adding to my tank.

    Great Sand

By PamB on May 10, 2019

our package arrived on time and just as described. I never knew you could have sand for a freshwater aquarium and this is made for it. It helps keep your tank clean and free of nitrates/nitrites also. I would always recommend anything Chewy sells. Chewy always ships on time and has great products!

By Frank on Mar 7, 2019

I was scared to buy at first because of reviews but I just dumped the dry sand damped it a little in my tank then decorated a little, then filled it up by pouring the water on bowl, it was a little cloudy for about 2hrs but when it settled it looked wonderful and was ready for some plants and fish!

Not really sure if I like product.

By Sickgirl on Dec 28, 2018

I called and talked with customer service. We decide this was what I needed for new tank. But sand was so cloudy even after rinsing it well. Some floated on top for weeks. Tanked cleared up once filter ran for a few days.
