My door frame is small so I didn't need the extender. When I tried to insert the treaded door jammer in its slot, it stopped halfway. It didn't go in all the way like the rest of the others. It was sticking out too much that I couldn't get the gate on. I popped the plastic covering to see what's obstructing it, and I found a welded metal pearl right in the middle. I guess the person welding thinks the customer will always use the extender so they can do a horrible job welding on main one. I don't recommend this product if your door frame is small. You'll end up having a useless gate like mine.
Took longer for delivery but easy to install and use
It is not pressure mounted - you need to attach to doorway with screws.
I think the gate would have been lovely but I made the mistake of starting to assemble it and realized at the end - you have to put screws into the doorframe to hold the cups that you insert the legs into to hold it firmly in place. I thought if pressure mounted that you wouldn't have to damage your landlord's property. They were not keen on having holes put into the door frame. After the second step, you can't manually completely un assemble the gate to be able to return it. It is not a gate that is held in place strictly by pressure. It is mounted. Keep looking if you don't want to "damage" the place you are renting. Otherwise, it appears to be lovely. I should have read the instructions through completely so that is my fault. I should have realized that it would be hard to design a gate with a door in it.
This was easy to install and put up. Works great! Got this to help keep the dog out of the cat’s litter box, and to allow the cat to pass through, and for us to get in and out of the laundry room. The only problem is the puppy is still small enough to shimmy his way through the small pet door. Here’s hoping puppy will grow enough to not be able to fit through that door. Sadly we aren’t using the gate at the moment. But I really like the gate itself!
Perfect little gate
I love this gate. It’s perfect for keeping our golden retriever puppy out of the room where we keep the cats food and water! Even with him standing on his 2 back legs he isn’t able to jump over the gate. The little door is perfect for any cat.
Great dog gate!
We use this dog gate to the entrance of our bedroom and it’s perfect! We can close the big part off and still have the small door open so our cats can go in out! The only downside is it doesn’t always want to fit into our doorways. More a fault on the house than the gate though!
Keeps the dogs in
We had another Carlson gate for over three years that goes from the house to the garage. We use it alot since we use this door in and out of house, to get to the washer and dryer and the extra fridge so it was not surprising that the push button to open the gate finally started sticking. It finally broke and we had to get new one. Saw this and it looked exactly like our old one so I ordered it. It was easy to set up and works great! BUT it is too tall to use where you also need to shut a door. My mistake for not reading the "extra tall". We have to push the gate a bit forward to close the door. So check the height and where you will be using this before you order. Other than that it is great!
I live in an older house with smaller doorways. The person I talked to about size, etc was most helpful and spend a lot of time helping. I got the gate yesterday and it fit. I was so excited. I wish I had his name to compliment him.
Not enough tension for 32” doorway
I ordered two of these gates. After installing the first gate, I’m concerned about the tension on the top portion. The pressure on the top of the gate with one on our 32” doorways is not secure enough to make me feel safe using these products with our 5-year old and puppy. The doorway is not wide enough for the extension. I’m worried that the gate may slip and fall down with repeated use. Just a little lateral pressure make the gate move. I’ll be taking down the one and won’t be installing the second unit.
Sturdy, easy to install
This gate has done the trick! We needed to keep our inquisitive young dog out of the laundry room where the cats' litter boxes are. The gate was easy to install and sturdy. The cats love having their privacy and they have no problems coming and going through their own smaller door. Our dog did squeeze herself through the cat door once but we used two cable ties to secure the cat door open, but only halfway. The cats still go through fine and the dog won't fit through the smaller opening. This gate has done all we wanted it to do, very happy with it.
