Carprofen is prescribed to relieve pain and inflammation caused by arthritis and other joint problems, so you can help your dog maintain her regular activity levels and quality of life. Carprofen may also help to reduce pain associated with surgeries and other painful conditions and works by limiting your dog's production of prostaglandins, which are substances that can trigger inflammation.

Yellowing of gums, skin, or whites of the eyes (jaundice).

Changes in skin (redness, scabs, or itchiness).
If you see any of these signs, stop giving the drug and contact your veterinarian immediately.
Drug & Food Interactions
No known drug interactions have been reported.
Precautions
This class of drug may be associated with gastrointestinal, renal and hepatic toxicity. When nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs inhibit prostaglandins that cause inflammation they may also inhibit those prostaglandins which maintain normal homeostatic function. This may result in clinically significant disease in pets with the underlying or pre-existing disease more often than in healthy pets. The use of parenteral fluids during surgery should be considered to reduce the potential risk of renal complications when using nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs perioperatively.
Give this medication by mouth according to your veterinarian's instructions. It can be given one or two times a day but your veterinarian will be able to determine the dose and frequency best suitable for your dog.
Storage Instructions
Store at controlled room temperatures between 68° - 77°F.
What is Carprofen?
Carprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) medication that helps relieve the pain and inflammation that occurs with arthritis in dogs. It also helps bring relief from other joint problems and can help your pet to feel better after surgery. Carprofen is the generic alternative to Rimadyl, Novox, and Vetprofen.
How is this medication given?
Carprofen can be given once a day or it can be split into twice daily dosing. Your veterinarian will determine the dosage of medication and the frequency at which it should be given. Give this medication by mouth (orally). Gastrointestinal upset including vomiting and diarrhea may be minimized if Carprofen is given with food. Carprofen should be given at the lowest dose necessary to help your dog to feel better. You should never administer Carprofen to a pet other than the one for which it has been prescribed for.
How does it work?
Chemicals in the body called prostaglandins are reduced with Carprofen. Since prostaglandins trigger inflammation, minimizing them helps decrease inflammation and pain that occurs as a result of arthritis, surgery, and other joint conditions.
What results can I expect?
Symptoms of arthritis include stiffness, trouble walking, and difficulty rising. These symptoms can be relieved with Carprofen although this medication will not cure arthritis since there is no known cure for this chronic condition. Your dog should start to feel better although results vary in each individual. If you discontinue Carprofen you may notice your dogs symptoms returning.

Helps my "old lady"
This medicine, along with Cosequin, has helped my 13 yr old dog feel better! She has been on the combination for over a year and it's easy to tell she walks more easily, and even runs sometimes! I'm glad I could help her feel better. My Vet does require yearly blood tests for her to stay on this medication, though.

Canine Hip Helper
My 13-year-old 65-lb golden doodle was clearly having some issues with getting up from a prone position. He'd been taking a glucosamine chondroiton supplement since turning 10 and they helped. But not enough. He's a highly energetic dog, so it was disheartening to see him slowing down and in pain. My vet prescribed a trial of CARPROFEN, and within days he was back to his normal activity and energy levels. Now he takes it every day and is clearly feeling like his old self.

Maisy’s med
Chewy made this such an easy, fast experience! The medication was less expensive & was at my home in less than 3 days. I use chewy for prescription food for my 16 yr Border Collie & treated just as great in that area. Thanks Chewy!

More for less
Having three dogs well into their senior years, arthritis is affecting their quality of life. So. When my Vet recommended rimadyl brand I was shocked how expensive it was. This generic alternative is fabulous, it works just as well as brand for a fraction of the price!

PILL BOTTLE OPENED WHEN RECEIVED
I got the package and it appears that the bottle opened up in transit. The package I got was sealed, but with pills scattered throughout the package.
