Carprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) medication that helps relieve the pain and inflammation that occurs with arthritis in dogs. It also helps bring relief from other joint problems and can help your pet to feel better after surgery. Carprofen is the generic alternative to Rimadyl, Novox, and Vetprofen.
Carprofen can be given once a day or it can be split into twice daily dosing. Your veterinarian will determine the dosage of medication and the frequency at which it should be given. Give this medication by mouth (orally). Gastrointestinal upset including vomiting and diarrhea may be minimized if Carprofen is given with food. Carprofen should be given at the lowest dose necessary to help your dog to feel better. You should never administer Carprofen to a pet other than the one for which it has been prescribed for.
Chemicals in the body called prostaglandins are reduced with Carprofen. Since prostaglandins trigger inflammation, minimizing them helps decrease inflammation and pain that occurs as a result of arthritis, surgery, and other joint conditions.
Symptoms of arthritis include stiffness, trouble walking, and difficulty rising. These symptoms can be relieved with Carprofen although this medication will not cure arthritis since there is no known cure for this chronic condition. Your dog should start to feel better although results vary in each individual. If you discontinue Carprofen you may notice your dogs symptoms returning.

I tried to update and/or add a follow up note to my previous review about the flavored carprofen, but system wouldn't let me send it. Wanted to thank Chewy for the wonderful customer service!! I had written a comment complaining that the flavored tablets crumbled when I tried to cut them in half. I was so surprised when I got a call from the pharmacy! They recommended trying the chewable carprofen instead, and sent me a replacement. These have deep score and are very easy to cut. I read comments complaining about the tablets being so large - but I just cut it into quarters, and that worked fine. Sadly a few days after I received the replacement, my little 18 year old guy suddenly just stopped eating and had to be put to sleep. It was his time, but he had a good long life and I was thankful to have him with me for so long. But for the few days I was able to give it to him, he ate the tablets out of my hand like it was a treat - even when he would hardly eat anything else. So they must taste really good!
These are easy to cut, but you should take the ones you already cut and set them aside. They will crumble if you put them back in once they have been cut
Our vet prescribed this med. for our lab, it will be a long time use for her. Going thru Chewy it is almost $30 dollar than our vet!
My dog likes her medicine. Chews it up right away. It seems to ease her pain also.
These help my 12 year old, arthritic dog who has had double knee replacements. The 100mg ones are great and you can snap them in half with your hands. The lower doses crumble when you cut them so that’s a huge pain, but worth the savings over name brand IMO.
These pills saved my sweet pup a lot of pain and saved me a lot of money at the same time. They must have tasted great b/c they were the only pill Ellie would take from me without it being smothered in cream cheese. They were also easy for her 15-year-old teeth to grasp and chew. I am so grateful for Chewy and affordable, effective medication for my pups.
Not happy that I received chewables instead of the smaller version. My dog hates taking pills of any sort and he sniffs them out of meatballs & then won't eat the meatball. The chewables are too big to hide easily in the meatball. Do not send them eagain.
She seems like a puppy again. She is 7 but acts like a puppy.
So I had a time with the pharmacy to get this medication shipped out in reasonable time. Usually Chewy is so on top of shipments but this time I had to make multiple phone calls to kickstart the process that was faltered on by Chewy because of some glitch in their pharmacy prescription tracking system. All of this wasn’t helpful because I was worried if the medication would even work as it’s a generic version. When I finally did get it in, I was disappointed. My dog has arthritis. And I had hoped it would take more time to take effect but it seems to have begun to ramp up in pain for my doggy. It’s tough to bear to see him in pain, so the pharmacy glitch / mix-up / lot of effort now required on my part when the approval was in Chewy’s system the whole time really didn’t make it any easier. Long story short, the Carprofen is okay but not as great as Rimadyl. Tried to return but the pharmacy wants to make me jump through more hoops. This whole process has turned me off using the pharmacy altogether. Chewy still has other great services but this ain’t one of ‘em.
My dog struggles with arthritis. Big, big dog. This product keeps him free of pain so he plays like a puppy again. Makes you feel good inside to be able to help them. Highly recommended.,
