Carprofen (Generic to Rimadyl, Novox, Vetprofen) Flavored Tablets for Dogs
Prescription Item
Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again.
Carprofen is prescribed to relieve pain and inflammation caused by arthritis and other joint problems, so you can help your dog maintain her regular activity levels and quality of life. Carprofen may also help to reduce pain associated with surgeries and other painful conditions, and works by limiting your dog's production of prostaglandins, which are substances that can trigger inflammation. And since these tablets have a wag-worthy beef flavor, your dog won't mind taking his medication!
UsesCarprofen is indicated for the relief of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis and for the control of postoperative pain associated with soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries in dogs.
Possible Side EffectsCarprofen is tolerated well in the vast majority of dogs, and the risk for side effects occurring appears to be less than 1%. But rarely, serious side effects (stomach ulcers, liver, or kidney problems) and sometimes death have been reported.
Side effects that may be serious or indicate a serious problem:
- Decrease or increase in appetite (eating less or more than normal), vomiting, changes in bowel movements (such as diarrhea, or black, tarry or bloody stools).
- Changes in behavior or activity levels (more or less active than normal), incoordination/weakness (eg, stumbling, clumsiness), seizure (convulsions) or aggression (threatening behavior/actions).
- Yellowing of gums, skin, or whites of the eyes (jaundice).
- Changes in drinking habits (frequency, amount consumed) or urination habits (frequency, color, or smell).
- Changes in skin (redness, scabs, or itchiness).
If you see any of these signs, stop giving the drug and contact your veterinarian immediately.
Drug & Food InteractionsNo known drug interactions have been reported.
Precautions
This class of drug may be associated with gastrointestinal, renal and hepatic toxicity. When nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs inhibit prostaglandins that cause inflammation they may also inhibit those prostaglandins which maintain normal homeostatic function. This may result in clinically significant disease in pets with underlying or pre-existing disease more often than in healthy pets. The use of parenteral fluids during surgery should be considered to reduce the potential risk of renal complications when using nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs perioperatively.

Carprofen.
Give this medication by mouth according to your veterinarian's instructions. It can be given one or two times a day but your veterinarian will be able to determine the dose and frequency best suitable for your dog.
Storage InstructionsStore at controlled room temperatures between 68° - 77°F.
What is Carprofen?
Carprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) medication that helps relieve the pain and inflammation that occurs with arthritis in dogs. It also helps bring relief from other joint problems and can help your pet to feel better after surgery. Carprofen is the generic alternative to Rimadyl, Novox, and Vetprofen.
How is this medication given?
Carprofen can be given once a day or it can be split into twice daily dosing. Your veterinarian will determine the dosage of medication and the frequency at which it should be given. Give this medication by mouth (orally). Gastrointestinal upset including vomiting and diarrhea may be minimized if Carprofen is given with food. Carprofen should be given at the lowest dose necessary to help your dog to feel better. You should never administer Carprofen to a pet other than the one for which it has been prescribed for.
How does it work?
Chemicals in the body called prostaglandins are reduced with Carprofen. Since prostaglandins trigger inflammation, minimizing them helps decrease inflammation and pain that occurs as a result of arthritis, surgery, and other joint conditions.
What results can I expect?
Symptoms of arthritis include stiffness, trouble walking, and difficulty rising. These symptoms can be relieved with Carprofen although this medication will not cure arthritis since there is no known cure for this chronic condition. Your dog should start to feel better although results vary in each individual. If you discontinue Carprofen you may notice your dogs symptoms returning.

Great Rx experience
By BHCR on Jan 11, 2021
Chewy makes refilling our dog's medicines very convenient because they confirm the prescription directly with our vet and ship promptly. Chewy's autoship features are well designed and easy, making it a snap to ensure that our medicines arrive on just the right frequency. We've been very happy with the generic medication that we've purchased from Chewy. It has been just as effective as the name brand we started with. works for my senior dog
By Lucky1 on Dec 15, 2020
So this medication works However I’m wondering if there’s a non flavored one I can try next time because even with a treat my dog hates this one and spits it out if she tastes it, we had a small script from the vet that she didn’t mind as much but the tablet was much more compact and oblong shaped so it stayed together and apparently didn’t taste as bad when paired with a treat, whereas this one is round and crumbly when split (she’s a 14lb chihuahua/Yorkie so she takes half a 25mg twice a day) she spits out the whole treat with these ones. I don’t quite understand the difference in options when I search because there’s no pictures of the actual pills but does anyone know if there’s a better So this medication works However I’m wondering if there’s a non flavored one I can try next time because even with a treat my dog hates this one and spits it out if she tastes it, we had a small script from the vet that she didn’t mind as much but the tablet was much more compact and oblong shaped so it stayed together and apparently didn’t taste as bad when paired with a treat, whereas this one is round and crumbly when split (she’s a 14lb chihuahua/Yorkie so she takes half a 25mg twice a day) she spits out the whole treat with these ones. has been nothing short of amazing for us
By jaime on Dec 27, 2020
We have a 8-year old mixed terrier guy who we always thought was pretty lazy. But one day I noticed him limping. We started him on carprofen and can’t believe the different in his energy and play levels. He never used to even play with toys before. He even runs and keeps up with his sister. Great price through chewy- auto ship is awesome!

long wait times for mail in rx
By longwait on Jan 8, 2021
we mailed in our RX and had to wait 2 weeks for their acceptance of the RX. Normally I would agree with Chewy that its the US post office that is the problem but this is the second time this has happen, with the first being pre-covid. I think Chewy needs to look at there method of handling mail within the building first before blaming the USPS.

Not what I'd hope for
By Schwartz on Jan 5, 2021
I purchased flavored tablets of Carprofen instead of the name brand Rimadyl. I assumed I could cut the tablets in half as my dog needs 1 1/2 tablets. These would not cut like the named brand. They smashed keeping me from giving a half a tablet. I'd prefer not to pay the higher price for the named brand but might have to in order to give my dog the proper dosage.

My Sheltie is perky again!
By Hates2cleanlitter on Oct 19, 2020
My 7-year-old Sheltie was limping. The only time she would run was to run away when the leashes came out at walk time. The vet thinks there is an arthritis issue amd prescribed Carprofen, to be taken with food. I bury the pill in soft dog food at breakfast and dinner, and my Sheltie is happy to take her "treat." I am grateful to our vet for Dx and Rx, but the pills were pricey from the vet office. My Sheltie will be on these pills, 2 x daily, for the rest of her hopefully long life. So it was wonderful to find better pricing and auto ship abilities at Chewy. My Sheltie is enjoying life--and her walks--again. Thanks, Chewy!

Not happy with their speed of service
By tomt on Oct 17, 2020
Picked up Script from Vet on Wednesday the 30th (Vet will not do scripts over the phone).Ordered the med on Thursday Oct. 1st. Went to the post office on same day and expressed mailed the script and Chewy's received it Saturday morning (confirmed). Called twice during the week and heard excuses like we had a fire in our Arizona(?) pharmacy, etc. Finally, shipped on Friday the 9th and we received it Sunday afternoon. No 1-3 days shipping as promised after they received the script. We only had a limited supply of this pain medication from Vet (10 days) which we thought would be enough. It was not! Our first time using Chewy's for RX. Not sure we will do it again.

My senior dog is living his best life
By SeniorDogLife on Nov 26, 2020
These pills have given my 16-year-old pup new life. His arthritis had gotten so bad that he was hobbling and stumbling and I had to lift him up by his harness on our walks. The vet recommended Rimadyl, so I gave these generics a try and within a few days my pup was able to get around unassisted. We can take 1/2 mile walks now and some days he even runs around like a puppy again. The pills are easy to split in half by hand and they must taste good because my dog eats them like treats.

Great product, Slow delivery
By MercedHawk on Oct 17, 2020
Since the second day my Vet recommended this medicine for my 8 year old Boxer it was like he was a 3 year old again! He had apparently been hampered with soreness in his joints and I didn't realize it. This med worked wonders and I highly recommend. PROBLEM is with ordering process. You cannot have your Vet send in a prescription.. You must opbtain a written prescription and then mail in and wait for processing. This whole process can take up to 2 weeks, so if you are running low, know it is going to take time and order accordingly.

Impossible to cut, crumbles into dust
By Indeo on Oct 29, 2020
My dog’s current dose is half a pill twice a day. Even though the medication is scored, it does not break in half if you try and use your hands. The pill crumbles into dust no matter how you cut it— knives and all types of pill cutters (and believe me, we tried many pill cutters...) are ineffective. In the future, it would be great if Chewy offered to cut the pills for us and/or provide the pills in smaller doses. The pharmacist was absolutely no help when I called for advice.
