Description

Carprofen is the generic version of Rimadyl, Novox and Vetprofen. These chewable tablets are formulated to help provide pups with relief from pain and inflammation related to osteoarthritis. These tablets may also be given to your dog to help control postoperative pain associated with the soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries. These chewable tablets have a delicious beef flavor that makes administration extra easy.

Uses

Indicated for the relief of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis and for the control of postoperative pain associated with soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries in dogs.

Possible Side Effects

CAUTION: As with other NSAIDs, signs of carprofen intolerance may include appetite loss, vomiting and diarrhea, which could indicate side effects involving the digestive tract, liver or kidneys. Some of these side effects, in rare situations, may be serious, resulting in hospitalization or even death. Pet owners should be advised to discontinue treatment if side effects occur and contact their veterinarian. Concomitant use of Carprofen Flavored Tablets with other anti-inflammatory drugs, such as other NSAIDs or corticosteroids, should be avoided because of the potential increase of adverse reactions. Refer to the prescribing information for complete details.

Drug & Food Interactions

Carprofen Chewable Tablets should not be used in dogs exhibiting previous hypersensitivity to carprofen.

Precautions

Keep out of reach of children. Not for human use. Consult a physician in cases of accidental ingestion by humans. For use in dogs only. Do not use in cats. All dogs should undergo a thorough history and physical examination before initiation of NSAID therapy. Appropriate laboratory tests to establish hematological and serum biochemical baseline data prior to, and periodically during, administration of any NSAID should be considered.

FAQ

What is Carprofen?

Carprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) medication that helps relieve the pain and inflammation that occurs with arthritis in dogs. It also helps bring relief from other joint problems and can help your pet to feel better after surgery. Carprofen is the generic alternative to Rimadyl, Novox, and Vetprofen.

How is this medication given?

Carprofen can be given once a day or it can be split into twice daily dosing. Your veterinarian will determine the dosage of medication and the frequency at which it should be given. Give this medication by mouth (orally). Gastrointestinal upset including vomiting and diarrhea may be minimized if Carprofen is given with food. Carprofen should be given at the lowest dose necessary to help your dog to feel better. You should never administer Carprofen to a pet other than the one for which it has been prescribed for.

How does it work?

Chemicals in the body called prostaglandins are reduced with Carprofen. Since prostaglandins trigger inflammation, minimizing them helps decrease inflammation and pain that occurs as a result of arthritis, surgery, and other joint conditions.

What results can I expect?

Symptoms of arthritis include stiffness, trouble walking, and difficulty rising. These symptoms can be relieved with Carprofen although this medication will not cure arthritis since there is no known cure for this chronic condition. Your dog should start to feel better although results vary in each individual. If you discontinue Carprofen you may notice your dogs symptoms returning.

Excellent product despite delay in arriving.

By maswa on Dec 7, 2020

I chose the chewable hoping my dog would like it, but no she doesn't! So I still have to use a pill pocket or wrap it in turkey etc. to have her eat it. The good part is, that unlike the tablets, this chewable one is easy to halve, which is a plus!
