My cat and I are both happy with this food.

By Chipper on Sep 16, 2020

My cat will not drink. Not from a bowl, not from a fountain. I'm always looking for ways to get more water into her so her kidneys will stay healthy. Stews are good because they have a high water content, plus I add extra water. Previously my cat was eating a stew made by a different manufacturer, but My cat will not drink. Stews are good because they have a high water content, plus I add extra water. Previously my cat was eating a stew made by a different manufacturer, but the quality was uneven, so I decided to switch brands. I am very picky about safety and ingredients, and chose to switch to Caru stew in part because it was recommended in the Truth About Pet Food website's annual list of trusted foods. My cat (a healthy 8-year-old) dove into the Caru Chicken Stew immediately and continues to eat it eagerly. It's true that, as others have written, the appearance of the food is a little odd and not exactly what I'd call a stew. It looks more like a thick baby food with a few chunks of chicken here and there. But that doesn't matter if your cat likes the food. Although the labeling on the box makes it sound like you can close it to store the food after opening, I don't see any way to reseal it. A box lasts me for four meals (supplemented with dry food), so I pour the contents into a small glass storage dish with a snap-on lid and refrigerate it. … more

    Sorry, but this is AWFUL

I'm disappointed that I had to give this a star but no stars was not an option. The description of this product was so wonderful that I really thought this would be a good addition for my seven cats but not one of them would even attempt to eat it - they all walked away from it. After four separate attempts to get at least one of them to try it, I finally gave up. Even my nose wrinkled when I poured it out of the container, not because of the smell (which is non-existent) but because of its look. It is NOT stew. It's a cross between bumpy pablum and over-cooked oatmeal. It's been pureed so much that there are NO pieces of anything that could be called a vegetable. Don't even get me started on "where's the chicken". I don't even know what color to describe it. It's grey, no it's beige, no it's the palest of yellow or it's those three colors combined. CARU needs to correct the description of this product or drastically change the way they produce it. It's not at all as described. … more

not a good fit for my cat

    By on

My 11 year old cat is usually not a picky eater, as I've fed her different kinds of food her whole life. She is used to variety. But she wouldn't touch this, just gave it barely a sniff. Hopefully, the outside cats will eat it.

    Cat was not into it

    By on

My 13 year old calico was not a fan. Very runny, soup like. Luckily I was able to give the rest to my coworkers young cat who loved it!

    Didn't work out...

    By on

I have 3 cats, two of whom will eat ANYTHING, and not one of them will eat this flavor. They will all eat the salmon version, but I end up throwing out half of the box because they just lick it a few times, and then walk away. I'm trying to feed them healthier foods, but this brand didn't work out for us. I'm now stuck with 3 cases of food they won't eat!

    swine slop

    By on

This product is not only extremely confusing and difficult to open, it looks like swine slop when you finally get it out.If there was really meat in it, I wouldn't know because it was processed so thoroughly that all I could see was a greyish brown thickened liquid. Disgusting! Even my cat refused to eat it when I put it down for him.I returned it.

Hard sell.... as a matter of fact just plain no!

    By on Top 100 Contributor

Love the idea of this food but they just don’t like the chicken! I find this unusual that I have a little luck with the Turkey and not the chicken, for my crew it’s usually the other way around! BUT they do love the turkey and salmon so I’ll keep that one around for sure! Great company with our pets in mind only using human grade ingredients instead of all that “junk” that you hear about!

    Ate it only once

    By on

My two picky eaters loved this food day one. Second day they both walked away from it. No longer interested in it. It’s like they they looked at each other and said “no way” and left the dishes full. Don’t understand.

can't understand why they don't like it, but they don't

    By on

This food seems to have everything good in it, but neither my 5 cats nor my mom's cat would go near it. To human eyes it looks kind of like something a cat might have upchucked--maybe it looks that way to cats too.
