My cat and I are both happy with this food.

By Chipper on Sep 16, 2020

My cat will not drink. Not from a bowl, not from a fountain. I'm always looking for ways to get more water into her so her kidneys will stay healthy. Stews are good because they have a high water content, plus I add extra water. Previously my cat was eating a stew made by a different manufacturer, but My cat will not drink. Previously my cat was eating a stew made by a different manufacturer, but the quality was uneven, so I decided to switch brands. I am very picky about safety and ingredients, and chose to switch to Caru stew in part because it was recommended in the Truth About Pet Food website's annual list of trusted foods. My cat (a healthy 8-year-old) dove into the Caru Chicken Stew immediately and continues to eat it eagerly. It's true that, as others have written, the appearance of the food is a little odd and not exactly what I'd call a stew. It looks more like a thick baby food with a few chunks of chicken here and there. But that doesn't matter if your cat likes the food. Although the labeling on the box makes it sound like you can close it to store the food after opening, I don't see any way to reseal it. A box lasts me for four meals (supplemented with dry food), so I pour the contents into a small glass storage dish with a snap-on lid and refrigerate it. … more

    Sorry, but this is AWFUL

I'm disappointed that I had to give this a star but no stars was not an option. The description of this product was so wonderful that I really thought this would be a good addition for my seven cats but not one of them would even attempt to eat it - they all walked away from it. The description of this product was so wonderful that I really thought this would be a good addition for my seven cats but not one of them would even attempt to eat it - they all walked away from it. After four separate attempts to get at least one of them to try it, I finally gave up. Even my nose wrinkled when I poured it out of the container, not because of the smell (which is non-existent) but because of its look. It is NOT stew. It's a cross between bumpy pablum and over-cooked oatmeal. It's been pureed so much that there are NO pieces of anything that could be called a vegetable. Don't even get me started on "where's the chicken". I don't even know what color to describe it. It's grey, no it's beige, no it's the palest of yellow or it's those three colors combined. CARU needs to correct the description of this product or drastically change the way they produce it. It's not at all as described. … more

    Cat was not into it

    By on

My 13 year old calico was not a fan. Very runny, soup like. Luckily I was able to give the rest to my coworkers young cat who loved it!

not a good fit for my cat

    By on

My 11 year old cat is usually not a picky eater, as I've fed her different kinds of food her whole life. She is used to variety. But she wouldn't touch this, just gave it barely a sniff. Hopefully, the outside cats will eat it.

    Finicky cat

    By on

I gave my cat 1 tsp. of the chicken stew mixed with her fancy feast turkey wet food. She liked it, but when I tried to give her more, she turned her nose up at it. The healthier the food I give her, the more she leaves it and goes for the kibble, which I consider kitty junk food. Help.

Yuck - no go in this household.

    By on

This is a gloppy grayish colored paste. I have one cat who is older and prefers to lick her food who will pick at it, but that is all. Very expensive food to have to throw out. I'll try donating the remainder.

    Didn't work out...

    By on

I have 3 cats, two of whom will eat ANYTHING, and not one of them will eat this flavor. They will all eat the salmon version, but I end up throwing out half of the box because they just lick it a few times, and then walk away. I'm trying to feed them healthier foods, but this brand didn't work out for us. I'm now stuck with 3 cases of food they won't eat!

Not a hit with my family

    By on

This sounded so perfect. However, my babies are just not interested in it. I wanted to try it because my 14 year old boy was struggling to eat. Unfortunately, he passed away shortly after this arrived and could not give it a fair trial. My younger cats are not interested in it at all. I am using it to feed some strays, but they do not gobble it down. It is a high quality food and I wanted it to be a success, but is not a palate pleaser here. Texture should be good for elderly cats with tooth or lapping problems or even syringe feeding but I won't purchase again.

    My cat loves it.

She didn't really like the other flavor, Salmon & Turkey, so I was a little concerned, but she likes this one much better than the other flavor and eats it without any topping.

    Picky Elderly Cat Loved it!

    By on

This food is like a very liquidy pate, I call it gruel. My 17 year old loves it! She has been picky lately, licking the gravy off the chunky food. But this is kinda like a very thick gravy, some days she willbeat all 6oz! Which is great cause she is lising weight due to age! Because of the virus, the package took a bit longer to get here, but not too long, and it was expected!
