    Picky cats

By Kitty on Dec 31, 2018

My cats did not like this food. One cat smelled it and walked away and my other one licked it and walked away. It has good ingredients. I was hoping they would eat it. I will have to stick to American Journey, though i have to add a little water to make more gravy.

    Slurry but with chunks

This food appeals to pate eaters, but the minced turkey is a counterpoint and thrown away. The success of this food depends on what your cat tolerates/prefers.

Did its it's a bit with the kitties. Packaging is a bit awkward, hard to open but it's environmentally friendly. Just wish they could figure out a way to make it easier to deal with

    Jury is still out

Thought the ingredients were quality so I purchased this at a good price on black Friday. My cats are not fond of the Caru Turkey Stew. I would not pay regular price for this. The bowl will sit mostly uneaten for an entire day.

    Excellent Food Choice!

    By on

I often make food for my cats and this human grade food is the closest thing to homemade. My cats love both the chicken and turkey formulas.

    Pleasant surprise

    By on Top 1000 Contributor

I took one look at this and thought no way! What a surprise everyone liked it, with 10 cats that is an amazing number of thumbs up! Cost prohibitive so they will only be getting the one time promotional deal but will watch to see if shows up again at an affordable price.

CATS LIKE IT AND SO DO WE. PACKAGE CHANGES AND COST REDUCTION WOULD HELP.

THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE CARU TURKEY STEW RECIPE. We have begun introducing this food to personal and rescued foster cats. It has a thick broth with small morsels – just right size for cats – and it smells like a human-grade food. The cats like it and this is the kind of food we like to see them eat! The list of ingredients in the Caru Turkey Stew are reportedly human-grade and free of products we prefer to avoid including grain and carrageenan. We also prefer to avoid fish or fish oil at least most of the time and favor foods from a single protein source. (Note that other wet cat foods by Caru appear to have seafood ingredients, including the Chicken Stew, which has salmon oil in the list of ingredients.) I don’t mind that the food is in cartons, but the dimensions of the cartons are impractical. This is cat food—not a beverage. Even after dumping the food out and scraping to get more food out of the carton, more digging and scraping around the inside of the carton can pull out another tablespoon or more of food. Considering the cost of this food and the number of cats we have to feed, we can’t throw away a tablespoon or more of cat food from every 6-oz carton. Also, all that scraping to get the food out of the bottom slows the feeding process. A shorter, wider container would help. I’d love to see a larger size container (e.g., 10 oz.). It would reduce labor in having fewer containers to open and could also reduce the cost of the food per ounce. We presently buy a great deal of chicken from a competitor who offers a quality cat food in 10-oz cans and per oz, the food in the larger cans is significantly cheaper than the same food in smaller cans. We can also get cat meals ready faster as we have fewer cans to open. The quality of the Caru Turkey Stew overall merits five stars. The reason this food gets four stars instead of five is because of price and carton dimensions. If the food were offered in even slightly larger cans/cartons of wet food – e.g., 10 or 12 oz., this could reduce cost over the long haul as well as our labor when opening them and scraping out the food. Time is money and it takes longer to get this food from carton to bowl. This may not be much of an issue for a 2-cat household, but in rescue, where we’re opening a lot of packages, it does make a difference. … more
