I usually buy Wellness canned cat food but decided to try this. I've bought canned cat food for many, many, years and have never had a problem. I opened a can of Organix cat food today and there are hard black pieces in the food. I don't know what they and I'm not a veterinarian, but I'd be afraid they could cause a blockage (obstruction) or something like that. They looked and felt like either black hard plastic, or bone. There are a lot of other black spots in the food, but they seem to be soft. I'll be uploading a photo.
Pluses as it is organic, and in a BPA-free recyclable can, relatively low phosphorus. Would prefer the previous version no longer available without grain and with Spinach and no peas that Organix removed. Other of my cats used to eat only the meat and leave the brown rice. My current cat eats it all. I could easily add organic brown rice, so I consider the rice in this recipe an expensive filler. Consistency is good, and I found no issues that were raised by some reviewers. I used to get Organix dry and wet prior to being sold, then I stopped purchasing it. I haven't tried the other Organix cans with the pea formula and likely will just stick to this one.
We bought this to try to reduce phosphorus intake for my seniors. It's a good quality food, but does still have the "unmixed alfalfa meal" issues, apparently - which results in black spots in places. Not unsafe, just unattractive, so I had no issues offering it to the cats. Unfortunately, no one was thrilled with it. Picked at it a little - probably because of the novelty of a new food - but then left it. Tried a can warmed up, but still no interest. Six cats all said, "No thank you" to this one.
First, I've always found Castor &Pollux/Organic to be an excellent brand. If you care about what your cat eats, this is an excellent choice. It's organic and balanced with whole grains organic brown rice (not all vets believe that cats shouldn't eat grains, since they eat rodents and birds, which eat grains) and vegetables. My cats love this food. It's a bit pricey but now that it comes in a case of 24 rather than 12, it's more cost effective. Highly recommend.

My new cats easily transitioned to this high quality food. We've used Organix for many years and always feel it is a wonderful product.
