I’ve had two previous treat dispensers, one embedded in a stand and he spun a wheel to get them out, the other a ball that he batted around the floor and they spilled out. He figured out both fairly quickly. He still had fun with them but it took him very little time to empty them. THIS is different. We’ve had it for a couple months and every afternoon I load some Temptations crunchy treats into it. Even though he now knows where to reach in, it still takes him half an hour to get them all out. This not only keeps it fun for him but it occupies him if I’m trying to get something done without his involvement. It was a little overwhelming to put it together (I watched the video a bunch of times) but now that it’s together it’s sturdy. It still looks as new as the first day. I think I will order the next level for my next shipment. Maybe that will occupy him even longer.
This actually turned out to be more useful than I expected. My cats are interested and they pull out all the treats, even small toys I put in there. Oddly they only do it when I'm not watching them. When I am supervising I think they expect me to do it for them and get frustrated too easily. But if I leave them with it, they go at it! I just have to make sure my chubby cat doesn't bully the little one out of the way to get al the treats. I put it away and take it out occasionally because I think they'd get bored if I left it out for them all the time. At $15 it's pricey for what it is but I'm desperate for any toy that isn't a piece of plastic junk, that actually engages my cats!
Read the reviews and purchased based on reviews and on sale. I have 5 cats and they like this toy, but probably because they get extra treats !! It is a great way to give them treats, even though they have to work a little for them. Keeps them interactive and doing something. I may have to breakdown and get another one as with 5 cats not all of them can interact with it at once, but I do have to say that $15 seems a little much for a cardboard box, which is also why I only gave 4 stars.
ALL my cats-from four years to kitten love, love this treat maze! All I have to do is shake the treats and they all come running as fast as they can! Hours later they will come back and poke around just to make sure no goodies are left. Even though cardboard this item has held up very well-I once saw an add for a larger one-twice this size, but haven't seen again-wish Chewy would stock again.
I work long days, live alone, and have a very inquisitive and active cat. It kills me to leave him home alone all day. However this toy has really helped. I fill it with treats in the morning, and watch him play with it during the day on the security camera. Usually the box is empty when I get home. When I'm home I put it away and only pull it out for work days to keep it fresh and fun for him. Whoever invented this simple, environmentally friendly box is very smart. Probably cost about $0.25 to manufacture, but still it's worth the money considering that it's well designed and the cat LOVES it. If your cat is inquisitive and food motivated it will likely be well loved & used.
My cat loves to open drawers, he's a Houdini of opening drawers. I bought this box expecting him to stop opening drawers. He still opens drawers, but at least now he entertains himself a bit trying to get the treats out of the box.
Do not buy this. It is the worst designed and made item I have ever bought. The pieces don't even fit correctly. It is a waste of money and I feel stupid for having bought this and wasted my money on it.
My cat was very interested in this for about 5 minutes. She figured out quickly how to get the treat and then lost interest, probably because she would rather meow and complain. It is a nice concept but my cat lost interest quickly.
My cat engages with this toy and is able to successfully get the treats out. My only concern is that her claws get caught up in the cardboard occasionally. So, I would recommend allowing your cat to use this only when supervised.
Perfect toy for my 2 kitties to both use. I put it out a couple of times a week with treats and toys. Once they see it getting filled they start meowing for it, then are all over it getting the things out.
