So, I love these things. I bought three, and have them on rotation for my cats. This is how I'm successful with mine. 1. KEEP! THE! PLASTIC! BIN! Don't remove the plastic bin inside. Come on people, you think that wood is going to hold up? No chance (unless you seal the thing yourself). It's decorative, not practical - but it's better than having a plastic tub of grass sitting around. You put the soil in the plastic bin - that's how it works. 2. People are talking about mold. I use near-boiling water for the soil discs in a big bowl (also means I don't have to wait for them to soak for 10 minutes). This kills any nasties. You can also bake the soil when you want to reuse it, ~250F generally works. I always bake bagged soil to kill of gnats and mold, as well. Anyway, these are awesome.
I'm still hopeful -- I've been growing cat grass for him in the same, small, black plastic containers for several years, so I think it's the change in container that's got him a little hesitant. The box is nice, and I wish the liner were a little sturdier (it seems kind of flimsy), but it was easy to set up and I have a "crop" of grass that looks just like the picture online. Maybe I'll plant catnip in it next time.
We love the grass kits but unfortunately the planter did not hold up to expectations. The wood is cheap and the white color was rubbing off immediately out of the package. There was a plastic lining that we were unsure if it should be left in or not (directions did not specify) but it was flimsy and cheap so we threw it out. Well, maybe it was meant to be left in (which is dumb) because the planter couldn’t hold water without leaking and then after we removed the grass the roots ripped the wood apart on the bottom of the planter. Needless to say this was a one time use item.
Only one of my three cats will eat the cat grass but I saw a tip that said that I can give them cat grass mixed in with the food. I didn’t mix very much but I think it was really helpful
I wasn't sure about how the boys would react, but Casey, our 16lb 2 year old, guards the box like it's the last wildebeest on earth! He loves it!!
This cat grass kit was so easy to use. The soil disks hydrated very quickly, and the grass sprouted in about 3 days. My cat is enjoying this treat and I have the refill kit on hand for when we need to plant more kitty grass. As a plus, it's nice to grow the grass in the wooden box, as it doesn't tip over, and it just looks very nice! Thank you for a great product!
Oh Yes, successfully grew my FurBabie's HomeGrown Grass!! No Chemicals just seed's, dirt, water watch it grow. I have the cup's blk n whte just if ur buying the ceramic mugs check it for cracks, it will leak eventually. I will be returning my whte as its showing hairline cracks and its new outta the box(bk 1st for Halloween n now for holidays used whte n its cracked)However I have the wooden box as well and I recommend both/all just as evrythg else u giv ur FurBabie Check It Over INSPECT DAILY, make sure their fav toy is still safe for them to continue playing with them or time to replace. My Boy took right to the fresh new grass right away. He watched me 'pull' 1 blade of grass at a time to encourage the eating it part an he took it from there, nxt thing I see he's grabbing 1 blade of grass with the front teeth(he's a Himalayan Persian his face is pushed in to start) those front teeth are super tiny yet he managed to get the blade with his fronts an pull that 1 blade out and would eat it like a spaghetti...if I'd let him(I made sure the pieces were alwys within 1inch or 2)Now we're growing the wooden as the holidays are over and time for the wooden chng. I Highly Recommend this to any of ur insde FurBabie's, they'll get the most safest naturally grown green grass for their benefit, if u are hesitant ask ur vet, ask any call rep at Chewy.com they have all ur answers 24/7 they can reassure anything that you doubt or don't know. Love the thought that its grown under my care, if I didn't trust the dirt provided or question the seeds, I know I can buy my own and still keep it safe for my FurBabies health. p.s. like evrythg else..watch it, it will grow mold if u don't follow directions or over water, smthng's "just happen" no Matter what, it may hav greew mold no matter what u did or didn't. Just let Chewy kno what happen an 99.9% they'll help find the issue. when my plant is old(time to toss)they usually have a spec a mold starting, so yea change tyhem out b4 they grow too big/tall, u can trim it off the top just like u would ur lawn, it'll keep growing, but you really should start new every other week .. depending on ur environment etc. just keep it simple n u'll have hardy growing grass u know is as safe as u grew it to be \\\\=^..^=////
It was easier to grow than I thought! My cats are loving it!
I could not say enough good things about this cat grass. I have a Main Coon that loves it and I will continue to purchase this. Reasonable and easy to grow also.
My cat Yuki loves this. He kept chewing on my houseplants so I thought I would try this out. Despite that last sentence, I am really bad at growing and maintaining plants but this grew easily and it is still going strong. Big fan.
