Unfortunately, my cats walk up to the grass try to eat it but they don’t seem to be able to get a good firm bite out of it. It’s too soft. I’ve smelled it. It doesn’t smell like anything. They don’t seem to like it at all. I’ve had it out for days it’s growing. But it’s just not attractive to them. The box is kind of cheap with a little plastic insert. If it were just one cat acting like they didn’t like it I wouldn’t think anything but I have three cats and none of them eat from it.
I'm not entirely sure what went wrong with my Cat Grass Kit. I followed the instructions perfectly, and only saw two strands of cat grass grow while the rest molded over. I ended up throwing it out since I figured it was no longer safe for my cat. All in all, it felt like a waste of money.
Cats love it. But three times now I have bought Cat Ladies kit, either with or without planter, and it only had two seed packets instead of the three that it’s supposed to have. I’m bummed that I keep getting shorted because otherwise it’s a great product.
It's in the trash . It is a big waste of money.. my cat would not eat and it had a foul odor. I only kept for 1 week.. I would give it 0 not even a 1 star.
Came fast in the mail and was well packaged. If you soak your seeds for a few hours before planting them, they grow super lush and big. I currently have it in my boys favorite window, and he loves it.
I'm still hopeful -- I've been growing cat grass for him in the same, small, black plastic containers for several years, so I think it's the change in container that's got him a little hesitant. The box is nice, and I wish the liner were a little sturdier (it seems kind of flimsy), but it was easy to set up and I have a "crop" of grass that looks just like the picture online. Maybe I'll plant catnip in it next time.
We love the grass kits but unfortunately the planter did not hold up to expectations. The wood is cheap and the white color was rubbing off immediately out of the package. There was a plastic lining that we were unsure if it should be left in or not (directions did not specify) but it was flimsy and cheap so we threw it out. Well, maybe it was meant to be left in (which is dumb) because the planter couldn’t hold water without leaking and then after we removed the grass the roots ripped the wood apart on the bottom of the planter. Needless to say this was a one time use item.
So, I love these things. I bought three, and have them on rotation for my cats. This is how I'm successful with mine. 1. KEEP! THE! PLASTIC! BIN! Don't remove the plastic bin inside. Come on people, you think that wood is going to hold up? No chance (unless you seal the thing yourself). It's decorative, not practical - but it's better than having a plastic tub of grass sitting around. You put the soil in the plastic bin - that's how it works. 2. People are talking about mold. I use near-boiling water for the soil discs in a big bowl (also means I don't have to wait for them to soak for 10 minutes). This kills any nasties. You can also bake the soil when you want to reuse it, ~250F generally works. I always bake bagged soil to kill of gnats and mold, as well. Anyway, these are awesome.
Only one of my three cats will eat the cat grass but I saw a tip that said that I can give them cat grass mixed in with the food. I didn’t mix very much but I think it was really helpful
only 7-8 seeds germinated, very disappointing
