Instructions

Especially for cats

We suggest you introduce your cat to its feeder by following the steps below:

  1. Place your cat's food in the food bowl without using the timer. (Try using his favorite food to encourage him to get used to the feeder.)
  2. When he seems happy eating in this way, place the unit in the position where he will find the food when you are away.
  3. Finally use the timing mechanism, but try not to watch over your cat - if he knows you're around he may wait for personal attention! If leaving your cat for a weekend, don't forget to make suitable toilet arrangements for it. Kittens should not be left alone for long periods without someone to check periodically that all is well.

Especially for dogs

Most small dogs will readily adapt to an automatic feeder, but you are recommended to supervise your dog's first few encounters to ensure that it is unlikely to damage the unit - which may be a problem with puppies. When leaving your dog, don't forget to make adequate toilet arrangements for it. Dogs, and particularly puppies, should not be left alone for long periods without someone to check periodically that all is well. For extra stability the feeder may be attached to a wooden base plate as follows:

  1. Remove food bowl(s). Break out the two molded-in retaining clips by inserting a screw into each hole and rocking from side to side.
  2. Place feeder in desired position on wooden board and replace clips in holes with the flat side of the clip uppermost. Screw clips to board in this position. c. Turn clip through 90 degrees to lock feeder to wooden base. Turn back through 90 degrees to unlock.

Cleaning

The C10 and C20 feeders are very easy to clean and normally only the bowls will require washing. The base unit, lids and lid lifting leavers can all be wiped with a soapy cloth. If required, lids may be removed for washing - simply pull out vertically from the base unit whilst pushing the lid upward using the finger cut-out at the rear of the lid molding. Make sure that the lids are fully pushed home on reassembly. Under no circumstances should the base unit be immersed in water.

  • An Actual Need For Early Rising Pets

I only wake up at 7am two times out of the week. But my baby got used to 7am completely and used to meow for HOURS, never allowing me to sleep in. This solves my problem. This is better than "free feeding" if you have a food motivated cat, (my cat doesn't break feeders) and perfect for people who only allow so much dry food in their cats diet. It's not for wet food which is fine cuz I use something else anyway for wet. The only issue(s) I have are there's no battery level indicator, the ticking sound is too loud when you're tryna sleep so it's not in my room, but it would probably bother guests sleeping in my living room (very light sleeper). • Does what it says

    By on

It is a very basic feeder on a timer but it does the job. The tray comes out for cleaning. My only minor gripes are that the shape of the tray makes it hard for my cat to get all the food, and sometimes she doesn't know the feeder has opened because it's completely silent.

  • Easy Portion Control Feeder

    By on

This feeder is easy to handle. It requires one AA battery. I’ve been using the feeder about a week now to give my cat his second breakfast each morning so I can sleep longer. I fill it and set it the night before and it pops open to feed him at the right time in the morning. He easily got used to it. I do have to take the battery out and put it back in for each use but that is because I don’t want to wear the battery out needlessly when not in use. This really fixed the problem of my hungry cat tapping me and waking me up with his meows. Now he gets fed and happy and I get sleep.

  • Just Perfect ...4:am feeding solved

I'm truly thankful I found this automatic feeder,it has made things so much easier for me and my cats. For all of you who love this feeder, but wish it cam with a ice pack, this is what I have done.Chewy sells a treat mixer called Pure Bites, I bought the chicken a few weeks ago, and guess what, the plastic tray fits perfect in the feeder.I washed several, filled with water to freeze, I then found a 32 oz yogurt lid to place on top, it has a lip that keeps the food inside, so far it works great, food is kept cold and the water doesn't spill when feeder opens...A paper plate cut to fit could be used too.Just wanted to share this tip.

  • Easy feeder

This is easy to load, easy to set, easy to clean! Really very simple, and it takes 1 aa battery that lasts a long time. This is my second one of these, I bough one over a year ago still have not changed the battery. I can get a whole 5oz can into this with room to spare. It’s handy if you are going on a day trip. But I use mine everyday to keep my 2 cats in a regular time schedule for food. It pops open and they run over. I had another feeder before using this one, that was not as good. It would jam, not open, or the battery would die etc, and my cats weren’t getting fed. This is a simpler unit, and has worked out better. If you get the bigger one the Cat mate 20, it included an ice pack to This is easy to load, easy to set, easy to clean! Really very simple, and it takes 1 aa battery that lasts a long time. • Cheaply made but does the trick

    By on

I bought this because I was tired of my cat waking me up at 7:20 for breakfast on weekends. It is very cheaply made — probably costs $2 to manufacture— so I wouldn’t recommend for a strong or rambunctious pet, but for a calm cat who doesn’t get the concept of weekend brunch, it works great. We both enjoy weekends more.

  • Good product for the price- Better customer service from Chewy!

We have two cats and ordered two of these feeders to see if they could help us out with morning feedings. The feeders came quickly and worked as described. One thing I didn't realize whether through lack of reading or understanding was that the feeder never "turns off" unless you take the battery out every time. I just assumed that the timer would stop running once it reached the pre-set time (kind of like a kitchen timer). I was surprised to find the feeder still ticking away after it had already opened. Just seems like something that could have an easy fix and save on battery life and hassle. That's my reason for 4 stars. No difficulty with the lid popping off as others described though we We have two cats and ordered two of these feeders to see if they could help us out with morning feedings. No difficulty with the lid popping off as others described though we didn't use it long. The second thing was that these feeders just didn't work for us with our particular cats. One cat could easily free feed. The other, however, will just eat til he vomits if he has the chance to and his brother will let him! We had difficulty ensuring the right cat got the right food without supervision. Kind of defeated the purpose. I do think these feeders would be a perfect inexpensive option for a one cat home or perhaps for people with multiple cats capable of free feeding. Chewy was AWESOME about giving us a refund though and told us to donate the feeders to a shelter. I was really blown away by their quick and friendly customer service & generosity. They definitely went way and above the norm and my expectations. I will definitely shop here again. … more

  • Broken After 1 Use

    By on

Used it once and it broke. The top popped off, and couldn't get it to work again b/c the lever that holds the top up won't retract. There is no on/off switch either....you must pull out the battery every time after use.
