  • I serve a true meat lover...

    By on Top 1000 Contributor

My mistress likes seafood now and again but meat is her favorite food. Chicken, rabbit, duck, beef...she loves them all. I try and find the best quality food for her and see how she likes that particular brand/recipe. If she likes it then I can put it on auto ship. Blue Buffalo Wilderness has great grain-free recipes so that I feel good about what she's eating. This is one of her favorites.

  • I got this because "Hoggie" likes variety

I've given it to him twice since it arrived. I bought it because he liked it before when I bought one can locally. Chewy Competitive prices and really fast delivery.

My seven cats all enjoyed this very much. However, due to its size I had to switch to a larger tin which does not have duck in it unfortunately. I do wish that Blue Buffalo made this in a larger size to accommodate my gathering of carnivores.

  • Okay, not perfect

I have a cat with dietary issues and therefore have tried a lot of different canned cat foods. He currently really likes this one; however, I have several issues with it. First is the can size. This flavor does not come in anything larger than a 3-oz can. Unless you have an extremely picky cat that refuses to eat reheated food or you don't own a refrigerator, there is absolutely no reason to purchase such small cans that are 160% the price per ounce as larger cans. The only reason I bought this type in the first place was because a month ago it was $16 per case, and it has now jumped to $27 on Chewy. Second, the texture is just okay. There are several brands, including this one, that have I have a cat with dietary issues and therefore have tried a lot of different canned cat foods. The only reason I bought this type in the first place was because a month ago it was $16 per case, and it has now jumped to $27 on Chewy. Second, the texture is just okay. There are several brands, including this one, that have an airy almost whipped texture to reduce the weight of cans while maintaining the listed volume. If a company is asking me to pay around $700 a year to feed 1 cat, don't cut corners or try to shortchange the customer by airating the product or using heavier cans. Third, like many other brands, the advertised meat, duck in this case, is cut with more cost effective meats. Duck is at least the main ingredient listed - some brands don't even go that far. When you have a cat with a chicken allergy, it's hard to find canned cat foods without it, let alone reasonably priced ones. The amount of chicken in this doesn't seem to cause him an issue, but I have my animals on a strict rotation of at least 4 different proteins at a time to avoid an allergy from developing, keep them interested in their meal, and prevent them from getting attached to a certain type of food. I understand why companies do this, and I have less of a problem when it is cut with chicken than when it is cut with fish. Cats may like fish because it's generally pretty smelly, but it's not really a natural prey source for cats. I realize that beef, duck, lamb, etc. are also not natural sources, but A) they don't make mouse and squirrel cat food and B) fish is less calorie dense than land animals which can be a problem is you exclusively feed the generic recommended daily amount that is applied to all pet foods without adjusting based on the different calorie densities. Overall it's a decent food, as are the other canned varieties of BB Wilderness. I haven't tried any of the other lines with my cats. Because it's such a large company, the quality and texture is very consistent between lots and across all the varieties. They do tend to have more incidents of recalls than a lot of other companies, but they are much larger, have a very high number of product options, and are on the cheaper end of the canned cat food I will buy for my pets. There were a couple tangents in there, but overall it's a good middle of the road option. … more

  • Not happy with this cat food!

I have three cats that wouldn't go near it. Terribly expensive for food that they rejected!

  • Did they change the recipe?

    By on

My cat loved this at first but not now. I noticed the latest cases are much drier and he doesn't like it at all. I bought a few cans from the pet store that have an earlier date on them and he thinks those are better.

  • Cats Not Wild About This Flavor

    By on

My cats will eat a little of this Duck flavor and tend to leave it and walk away. I put it in the fridge and offer it to them later. Even after it gets room temperature they act like nothing is in their dishes. They like Turkey and Salmon much better.

  • Not a winner!

I purchased a couple trial cans of this duck flavor from my local pet store, before ordering a case from Chewy. All 3 cats did reluctantly eat most of the first can (split 3 ways) but only ate a few bites of the 2nd can the following day before walking away and never returning. Glad I bought 2 cans to try, instead of only one. My cats eat only Blue Buffalo food and have since they were kittens. I vary the textures and flavors between different varieties within the Blue line of foods. They enjoy most of the varieties and flavors, but not this one. I know that this is good food but my 3 cats just didn't like this flavor for some reason. • Cats only ate first case and then hate this.

    By on

No idea what's wrong with the food. My cats only ate the first case (24 cans) and changed their mind. Now they hate this food and would be hungry for a whole day rather than eat it. I have 2 cases left and have to mix this wet food with other brand. Fortunately, my cats accept the mixture food. Would not buy again.

  • Kittens love it !

    By on

My new kittens were a trial ... what would both of them like to eat? I tried lots of different brands and they are both loving Wilderness Duck, and also Weruva's Chicken Frickazee - I alternate the flavors at feedings. Finally both are finishing their plates with gusto.
