  • A bad design, but better than all alternatives

    By on

This is the only usable feeder for wet food that I've found. And it's marginally usable. The product design is questionable. It has a 4 day mechanical timer, and incorporates chill blocks that last a maximum of 8 hours. The timer provides for 4 activations, with each activation revealing the next food portion -- but activations can be no less than around 4 hours apart. So, basically, you can set it up in the morning to provide three feedings (one immediate and two delayed). It wouldn't be safe to load more wet food than that, as the food will be warm and potentially spoiled by the time a 4th portion is released. After just under a year, I found that the timer wheel was no longer turning. The manufacturer sent a replacement clock unit -- which didn't address my problem at all. I found I could get my feeder working again by moving the timer settings to a different day (remember, this is a 4 day timer on a product that can really only be used for one day with wet food). Bottom line: Yes, this product sort of works, but the design is pretty awful. Sadly, as bad as it is, it seems to be better than any of the alternatives for automated wet food feeders. … more

  • Cat Mate C50 Automatic Pet Feeder

The compartments are adequate in size to feed 3 cats, that is a plus. I read the description and reviews and even contacted Chewy with a question but this feeder does not meet my needs. I guess I didn't understand or maybe I just didn't comprehend that 'not at fixed intervals' would mean that it wouldn't close at a certain time. I needed it to open at 6 am and close at 6 pm, I set the pins to do this, put food in the first compartment, left the next one empty, food in the next one then empty. It is definitely easier to remember to put the food out EVERY day and then put it away EVERY evening than to have to make sure that it opened, closed and how many days it had worked. Two days in a row of being automatic and then having to change the food to different compartments so it would work again was way more work than just remembering to bring it out & put it away. IF you just want your cat to eat what is in the container for 24 hours and then have another compartment open up I guess it would work. The representative didn't catch that I wanted the compartment to close after 12 hours or I am sure that they would not have recommended this product to me. … more

  • Lord of the Flies

I bought this specifically because I stay over my boyfriend's on weekends. Sometimes I'm gone more than 24 hours and I don't want the kittens to be hungry!!! We tried it while I was home and all went well. Once it was the weekend and I left them to their own devices (evil and brilliant!) all bets were off! I came home to find the TOP gone, the dish upside down and empty, and the base 10 feet from where I had left it. I would NOT call this CAT PROOF!

  • The clock is hard to work with

The time doesn't have a number, and that you have to guess, and when i came and didn't know if the feeder had turned.

  • Not for us

Product review (star rating is for product): The instruction isn't straight forward and it's hard to control the precision of the timer. My cat doesn't like it either. Chewy review: I called chewy to initiate a return. This lovely lady I spoke with (forgot her name) said refund is going to my card but asked me to donate the feeder for a local shelter. You have no idea how happy i was to hear that. A+ for Chewy. Will def shop again

  • No Good If Your Cat Can Pop the Top Off

    By on

My cat popped the top off this feeder the first night I had it. So just a warning that if your cat has ever opened a cabinet or anything else that requires a flipping motion with their paw and not a lot of force, they will be able to open this feeder. The top is just plastic and it's pretty easy to reach underneath and push it up and off of the food.
