Description

Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Senior Litter absorbs urine and odor on contact and traps it inside the crystals to keep a cat’s genital area clean to help prevent urinary tract infections. It’s small particle size and dust fines also coat and dehydrate cat feces to reduce odor. Precious Cat Senior is cleaner and hypo-allergenic, as it contains no organic material such as wheat, pine, corn and paper litters. Each bag contains a free Litter Box Solutions Booklet.

Key Benefits

  • Helps prevent kidney failure and urinary tract infection
  • Small particle and dust fines coat and dehydrate feces
  • Traps urine and odor on contact inside crystals
  • Biodegradable — when put in a compost pile or landfill, the material completely biodegrades back to the earth in one month
  • Non-toxic

Cautions

Always wash your hands thoroughly after waste removal. A parasite sometimes found in cat feces can cause toxoplasmosis. Please do not flush cat litter in toilets or dispose of it outdoors in gutters or storm drains.

Special Note

Some products are changing from bags to boxes. You may receive either packaging until the transition is complete, but rest assured that you are receiving the same great litter!

Transition Instructions

  • Pour Dr. Elsey's Senior into a clean litter box, using half as much as you would with a clay based litter. Top off the Senior with the litter you are using now, mixing as you add.
  • Give your cat time to get used to the crystal texture.
  • Once your cat is used to the crystal texture (about one week), empty the litter box completely into the trash, and refill with Dr. Elsey's Senior.

Instructions

  • The best litter I have ever bought!!

    By on

This is the best litter I have ever used for my cats! I have a problem boy who likes to poop on the couch (covered) for over a year... I knew he was avoiding the box, but didn't know why (he always pees in the box, thank God) After several visits to the vet & even putting him on medication to try to help, I actually set up 6 different types of litter all at the same time to see if he would use one or if he preferred any of them. The day I added this litter he pooped in it! It has now been a week & a half & he has only been going in this litter exclusively! No more on the couch! It is very fine, like grains of sand, so it doesn't bother or hurt his paws like i think the rest of them did. I love This is the best litter I have ever used for my cats! I love that it absorbs the urine & bacteria, it makes it so much easier to clean the boxes!! Just scoop the poop & stir up the litter & you're done! I have been raving about this litter to anyone that will listen & will never use a different litter again! All 4 of my cats prefer it to the others and they are all almost completely switched over to it. I would recommend adding a whole new box with just this litter next to what they're presently using... If you mix it with the old litter it might still bother their paws & make them avoid it, too. Bottom line is, if you're on the fence or looking for a great new type of litter- BUY THIS ONE!!!!! … more

  • Best litter we've used

    By on

Have used a lot of different types of litter over 40 years of having cats and like this the best - and not only for senior cats. It absorbs the pee and dehydrates the poo. Eliminates odor. Daily cleaning is easy - just remove the poo and stir the rest of the litter (Note: this is NOT a clumping litter). It is a little dusty when you change the litter but I have not found that to be troublesome. Minimal amount gets tracked out of the box.

  • Dust is not great with this litter

    By on

We love Dr. Elsey's products normally, but we bought this for our elderly cat that has a problem with UTIs, and we couldn't stand to scoop the darn stuff! This is a "crystal" litter - based on silica (the stuff that comes in those little "do not eat" packets to keep moisture out of foods, vitamins, electronics, etc.) that I'm sure was safe and worked great for drying up the wet spots in the litterbox, but the silica dust that became airborn with cleaning the box was awful and left a bad taste on our tongues that lasted several minutes. It also made our cat runny-eyed and a little sneezy, so I'm afraid it was a "no" for us. Maybe it would work better with auto-scooping boxes?

  • Best litter ever

I discovered this litter on accident, and will never use anything else for my cat. It's easy to find things that need scooped out, BM. Urine just disappears in the silica pellets. There is no and I mean No odors

  • Litter is fine, but didn't fix our problem

We have an elderly long-hair gentleman (Pushkin) who has started leaving his doodles on the floor near a litter box. He pees in the box just fine, so it's not total litter box aversion. He's been deaf, hyperthyroid, with some kidney disfunction for years, but stable. We've tried sanitary clipping, boxes with lower sides, less litter in the box, and ensured his privacy --all to no avail. The next thing to try was different litter. He now has four(!) litter boxes available to him overnight - 1 with Dr. Elsey's Senior Litter and 1 with Dr. Elsey's Long Hair Litter (each with a topping of his old clay litter for transition), plus 2 boxes with his old regular Dr. Elsey's Ultra Clumping Litter. And, with Chewy's Auto-Ship, we get a re-stock of nice fresh brown packing paper every couple of weeks! … more

  • Impossible to scoop

    By on

I was expecting a scoopable litter, but I got one that only changed color. My single cat has two litter boxes, each with different litter, and he uses them for different functions. When he urintes in the Precious Senior Cat Litter-filled box, the litter turns green. It's a pretty color but impossible to scoop. I won't be using this again.

  • Cat is older than dirt

    By on

He's old, has kidney disease and he's got one leg in the kitty grave. This is the only litter he will use so we're in it for however long we have left with him. The litter is clean, we don't find it all over the house and it doesn't have a bad smell.

  • Best litter out there

    By on

I have been using this litter since my cats were a few months old. My kitten had a uti so i purchased this even though it said its for senior cats. What I found is that there is absolutely no odor! I have two male cats and I feed them canned food to which I add water. That means they urinate alot. There is never a smell. They are both 10 years old and have never had any uti's since. It is not cheap, but it is worth every penny. It is so much better than the clumping litter. Dr. Elsey makes the best litter out there.

  • Good and Bad

    By on

The large pieces of silica sand do track and they hurt when you step on them. My cat would not use her box very often while trying this product. I think it hurt her feet to walk on it. This is obviously a problem. Also, very dusty for a silica litter. Bad for breathing issues. Good sides, very odor absobant! Also, no fragrance to the litter itself! Did not purchase again. Went with a different style, same brand.

  • Part of a mixture

    By on

I think I may have finally found the best litter combination for my 1yr old male Ragdoll furbabies: 75% Dr. Elsey's regular (in the blue bag) with 25% of the senior formula. Clumps perfectly, absorbs odor very well, and much less gunk sticking to their fur!! The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because the senior formula is a bit dusty.
