Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Senior Litter absorbs urine and odor on contact and traps it inside the crystals to keep a cat’s genital area clean to help prevent urinary tract infections. It’s small particle size and dust fines also coat and dehydrate cat feces to reduce odor. Precious Cat Senior is cleaner and hypo-allergenic, as it contains no organic material such as wheat, pine, corn and paper litters. Each bag contains a free Litter Box Solutions Booklet.

Key Benefits

  • Helps prevent kidney failure and urinary tract infection
  • Small particle and dust fines coat and dehydrate feces
  • Traps urine and odor on contact inside crystals
  • Biodegradable — when put in a compost pile or landfill, the material completely biodegrades back to the earth in one month
  • Non-toxic

Always wash your hands thoroughly after waste removal. A parasite sometimes found in cat feces can cause toxoplasmosis. Please do not flush cat litter in toilets or dispose of it outdoors in gutters or storm drains.

Special Note

Some products are changing from bags to boxes. You may receive either packaging until the transition is complete, but rest assured that you are receiving the same great litter!

Transition Instructions

  • Pour Dr. Elsey's Senior into a clean litter box, using half as much as you would with a clay based litter. Top off the Senior with the litter you are using now, mixing as you add.
  • Give your cat time to get used to the crystal texture.
  • Once your cat is used to the crystal texture (about one week), empty the litter box completely into the trash, and refill with Dr. Elsey's Senior.

  • Pour one inch of Dr. Elsey's Senior into a clean litter box.
  • Remove solid waste daily and rake crystals to ensure freshness. Litter does not form scoopable clumps.
  • A single litter box filled with Dr. Elsey's Senior can handle multiple cats but we recommend using more than one litter box if you have more than one cat.
  • Crystals may become discolored. The color does not affect the performance. One application will typically last two weeks depending upon use. After two weeks, completely dump the contents of the box and wash with mild soap and hot water.
  • Refill with one inch of Dr. Elsey's Senior.

Customer Reviews

Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Senior Litter is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 77.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Litter is fine, but didn't fix our problem We have an elderly long-hair gentleman (Pushkin) who has started leaving his doodles on the floor near a litter box. He pees in the box just fine, so it's not total litter box aversion. He's been deaf, hyperthyroid, with some kidney disfunction for years, but stable. We've tried sanitary clipping, boxes with lower sides, less litter in the box, and ensured his privacy --all to no avail. The next thing to try was different litter. He now has four(!) litter boxes available to him overnight - 1 with Dr. Elsey's Senior Litter and 1 with Dr. Elsey's Long Hair Litter (each with a topping of his old clay litter for transition), plus 2 boxes with his old regular Dr. Elsey's Ultra Clumping Litter. The result? Nothing has changed. Pushkin is happy to pee in all four boxes, but still poops outside the boxes. At least he leaves his poop on brown paper placed on the floor near his litter box. And, with Chewy's Auto-Ship, we get a re-stock of nice fresh brown packing paper every couple of weeks!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent Cat Litter I bought this litter because of its advertised benefit of helping prevent urinary tract and kidney infections. My cat is not a senior, but he’s had at least one kidney infection. Such infections can lead to chronic renal failure, a devistating disease. Dr. Elsey's is advertised as being scoopable, though I wouldn’t say it’s a clumping litter as the balls crumble easily. My cat seems to like it and had no trouble switching over from his old recycled paper type litter despite the dramatic difference in texture. The product does have a couple of drawbacks. The batch I got was rather dusty, though they are now advertising that it is 99% dust free so I may have gotten an older batch. It also tracks very easily and crunches under your feet. Daily sweeping will be required to deal with this. All in all these two things are minor if Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Senior Litter does what it says it does and helps keep my cat from getting another kidney infection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great cat litter for my senior cat My cat is a fan of this litter. I love crystal litters to begin with but this one is very fine, so soft on the my cat's paws. Normal tracking from the box. Does not ever end up sticking to her fur, which is the issue we had with clay litters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BEST LITTER FOR SENIOR CATS!!! If you have a senior cat then you understand what I mean. My 14 yr old cat can't hold his legs up, so he actually sits on the litter. This makes me go crazy because his fur gets wet with urine and it sticks to his "stuff" and makes the cat and myself really uncomfortable. Then he walks around the house and sits on the couch getting urine all over. Disaster! Well, ever since I started using this cat litter we have been SAVED!!! It is made of silica crystals, which are natural and will not harm the cat. It has a little thicker texture than sand. The litter actually absorbs and sucks up the liquid. Almost like a diaper, lol. The only drawback is that you need to change the litter more often and that depends on how many times your cat urinates. My cat is on prednisone, which makes him drink a lot of water so, I change the litter in one week as opposed to 2 weeks as stated on the packaging. AMAZING PRODUCT!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best litter out there I have been using this litter since my cats were a few months old. My kitten had a uti so i purchased this even though it said its for senior cats. What I found is that there is absolutely no odor! I have two male cats and I feed them canned food to which I add water. That means they urinate alot. There is never a smell. They are both 10 years old and have never had any uti's since. It is not cheap, but it is worth every penny. It is so much better than the clumping litter. Dr. Elsey makes the best litter out there.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Part of a mixture I think I may have finally found the best litter combination for my 1yr old male Ragdoll furbabies: 75% Dr. Elsey's regular (in the blue bag) with 25% of the senior formula. Clumps perfectly, absorbs odor very well, and much less gunk sticking to their fur!! The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because the senior formula is a bit dusty.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cat is older than dirt He's old, has kidney disease and he's got one leg in the kitty grave. This is the only litter he will use so we're in it for however long we have left with him. The litter is clean, we don't find it all over the house and it doesn't have a bad smell.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Messy I decided to try this for my crf cat because I thought it might be easier on her paws. It just made a mess and got caught in her paws. Its too bad, this company seems like a good one.
