The large pieces of silica sand do track and they hurt when you step on them. My cat would not use her box very often while trying this product. I think it hurt her feet to walk on it. This is obviously a problem. Also, very dusty for a silica litter. Bad for breathing issues. Good sides, very odor absobant! Also, no fragrance to the litter itself!
Did not purchase again. Went with a different style, same brand.

I have been using this litter since my cats were a few months old. My kitten had a uti so i purchased this even though it said its for senior cats. What I found is that there is absolutely no odor! I have two male cats and I feed them canned food to which I add water. That means they urinate alot. There is never a smell. They are both 10 years old and have never had any uti's since. It is not cheap, but it is worth every penny. It is so much better than the clumping litter. Dr. Elsey makes the best litter out there.

I have two litter pans for my big boy. I put Senior in one pan and kept the other filled with what I had been using.
Weeks went by and he would ONLY use the pan with Dr. Elsey's Senior Litter. So now both are filled with Dr. Elsey's Senior Litter and he uses both. Ta-dah!

Rated 5 out of 5 by 1Wino Good odor absorption
I've been using Dr. Elsey's for years now after reading about how bad clay litter is for the environment and for the poor kitties. I like this one because it absorbs odors well and is easy to scoop, and of course, there is no dust because it's not clay. My cats liked it right away and have been healthy into their senior years. I tried a few other types including the wheat and pine types, and they had urinary issues with all of them. This kind doesn't last as long as it claims in my household (I get maybe 2 weeks out of it, most times), but that's OK. I'll pay a little more to avoid the evil clay litter.

Rated 4 out of 5 by cybermeez Decent Cat Litter
I bought this litter because of its advertised benefit of helping prevent urinary tract and kidney infections. My cat is not a senior, but he’s had at least one kidney infection. Such infections can lead to chronic renal failure, a devistating disease. Dr. Elsey's is advertised as being scoopable, though I wouldn’t say it’s a clumping litter as the balls crumble easily. My cat seems to like it and had no trouble switching over from his old recycled paper type litter despite the dramatic difference in texture. The product does have a couple of drawbacks. The batch I got was rather dusty, though they are now advertising that it is 99% dust free so I may have gotten an older batch. It also tracks very easily and crunches under your feet. Daily sweeping will be required to deal with this. All in all these two things are minor if Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Senior Litter does what it says it does and helps keep my cat from getting another kidney infection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Carlypeterpan Excellent product
Love this product. Been using it for years. Easy to clean. Last longer than cheaper brands so don't need to buy it as often. Doesn't smell and healthy for my cat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Angela Great for overweight cats
One of my cats is slightly overweight and he doesn't clean his butt well. With other litters, his behind is a mess but not with this one. The litter does not make a mess and all of my cats use it. I will not go back to other litters.
