My male cat had urinary tract issues. Since using this litter he has been doing great and I have a break from Vet visits and big bills...I do change twice a week since I have 2 cats.... Every week isn't enough.

My cat is having some old-age issues and I am trying new things to make life better for her. So far so good. She likes it.

It does not have dust. When you read the directions (I know), you will see that it last longer than the other types of sand you may have used. It absorbs the urine and the odor. I Love it.

the silica made a mess of my floor. My cat used the box once and the urine did not clump but instead spread all over the box when I tried to clean it out. He then would not use the box and urinated on the floor. I am still running into silica dust all over the room where the box is despite cleaning the floor.

Rated 4 out of 5 by cybermeez Decent Cat Litter
I bought this litter because of its advertised benefit of helping prevent urinary tract and kidney infections. My cat is not a senior, but he’s had at least one kidney infection. Such infections can lead to chronic renal failure, a devistating disease. Dr. Elsey's is advertised as being scoopable, though I wouldn’t say it’s a clumping litter as the balls crumble easily. My cat seems to like it and had no trouble switching over from his old recycled paper type litter despite the dramatic difference in texture. The product does have a couple of drawbacks. The batch I got was rather dusty, though they are now advertising that it is 99% dust free so I may have gotten an older batch. It also tracks very easily and crunches under your feet. Daily sweeping will be required to deal with this. All in all these two things are minor if Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Senior Litter does what it says it does and helps keep my cat from getting another kidney infection.

I'll start with the pro- this litter is very fine and does not track very much; less sweeping!
The cons- it is very dusty and does not clump at all. It does turn green were the girls tinkle so it's easy to find.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Olga34 BEST LITTER FOR SENIOR CATS!!!
If you have a senior cat then you understand what I mean. My 14 yr old cat can't hold his legs up, so he actually sits on the litter. This makes me go crazy because his fur gets wet with urine and it sticks to his "stuff" and makes the cat and myself really uncomfortable. Then he walks around the house and sits on the couch getting urine all over. Disaster!
Well, ever since I started using this cat litter we have been SAVED!!!
It is made of silica crystals, which are natural and will not harm the cat. It has a little thicker texture than sand. The litter actually absorbs and sucks up the liquid. Almost like a diaper, lol.
The only drawback is that you need to change the litter more often and that depends on how many times your cat urinates. My cat is on prednisone, which makes him drink a lot of water so, I change the litter in one week as opposed to 2 weeks as stated on the packaging. AMAZING PRODUCT!!!!

I love this litter. After using clay litter for years, the tile floors actually come cleaned now. When I hand washed the floor before the clay always left a film that you could never get off the floors.
Its pricey but I am sick of carrying the heavy clay bags and storing them. Dr Elsey's lasts a lot longer so it is at least a third of what I was doing before, which makes a big difference in time for me!
So my time, my health and my floors are all better for me. My cat's health and happiness is also much better. So for the extra price it is worth it to me. It is a little dusty, but I did not like the respiratory one he offered. It didn't last as well or do as well. Oh, and I have power machines and it doesn't break them down all of the time like the clay did when it got too wet or heavy for the machine.
I rescue cats so I won't mention how many cats I have but its a lot to take care of correctly!
