Feeding Instructions

The amount of food your cat needs to be nourished daily depends on their activity levels and their stage of life. Generally, the more active they are (like adventurous outdoor cats) the more they’ll need to eat. Please consult your veterinarian for the best feeding regimen for your cat.

Transition Instructions

While it’s perfectly safe to stop feeding your cat’s previous food one day and introduce Fussie Cat the next, we recommend a gradual transition to Fussie Cat for up to 2 weeks. This is especially true if your cat has been previously fed a high grain, corn, wheat or soy diet. Start by introducing a small amount of Fussie Cat, increasing it daily while decreasing the previous food by the same amount. This will help avoid upset stomachs as it makes it easier for your pet’s digestive system to acclimate.

Frequently Asked Questions

What sets Fussie Cat apart from other pet foods?

Fussie Cat recipes are based on our Meat First philosophy. Meat or fish is always the main ingredient. As cats are obligate carnivores, nothing but a Meat First recipe will provide complete, Physiologically Tuned™ nutrition for your pet.

Why is real meat as the first ingredient so important?

All Fussie Cat recipes are based on our Meat First™ philosophy because cats are obligate carnivores. They require high amounts of protein to thrive, and lack the digestive enzymes to properly break down and combine incomplete plant proteins. This means they must have high-quality animal protein for optimal health.

Should Fussie Cat canned foods be refrigerated after opening?

Yes. Any unused portion must be refrigerated in a sealed container. Consider a plastic container with a tight-fitting lid. In addition, we recommend using each meal completely within 4 days of opening it. If your cat doesn’t care for cold food, let it sit at room temperature for around 30 minutes, or microwave it for 10 seconds (in a microwave safe dish, not the can), prior to feeding.

How do I read the dates on cans of Fussie Cat?

To help ensure you’re getting the freshest food for your cat, we provide both a “Production Date” and an “Expiration Date” on our packaging, located on the bottom of the can. It will read: “PRO MM/DD/YYYY, and EXP MM/DD/YYYY.” Never feed our pet food or any other brand to your cat past the expiration date.

What is the shelf life of Fussie Cat food?

Our recipes are vacuum sealed in our kitchen to give them a shelf life of 3 years. As with any pet food, never feed our meals to your pet past the expiration date, which is clearly marked on the bottom of the can.

Fussie Cat may be healthy, but will my cat like it?

The healthiest recipe in the world is useless if your cat won’t eat it. Conversely, the most delicious recipe falls short if it doesn’t provide the nutrition your cat’s biology demands. That’s why our recipes are all “Co-Created by Cats.™” We start with the Meat First™ ingredients your cat needs to thrive, then we taste test our meals with actual pets to create meals that are as delicious as they are nutritious.

Can I feed my cat dog food, or vice versa?

No. Despite what you may have heard, cats and dogs have unique nutritional needs and should be fed meals designed specifically for their needs. Health problems may occur from not feeding your pet a complete and balanced, species appropriate diet. Check the AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) statement, or on the product packaging to determine if that recipe is appropriate for your pet’s nutritional requirements.

Is Fussie Cat easy to rotate between flavors with my sensitive feline?

Because Fussie Cat® products are formulated to have similar nutrient profiles it is a great rotational diet. If your cat is sensitive to a certain recipe we recommend that you try another.

How do I know Fussie Cat provides my pet with quality nutrition?

All Fussie Cat foods are made in an FDA-approved kitchen that also produces human-grade foods. We regularly inspect everything from the manufacturing process to the raw ingredients that go in our foods so you can rest assured your cat’s meals are prepared under the strictest guidelines for quality control that meets international standards.

Do you perform any invasive animal testing in developing your products?

No, and we never will. Our company was founded on the basis of providing delicious, nutritionally correct, value conscious meals for your cat. To fine-tune our recipes, we conduct trials where our food is fed to pets. This is done in a comfortable, stress-free environment for the animals.

What is AAFCO and is Fussie Cat AAFCO approved?

AAFCO stands for Association of American Feed Control Officials. All Fussie Cat recipes are formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO for all life stages of your pet. This certifies that Fussie Cat is a nutritionally complete product that can be fed to your pet as its sole ration without adding any other substance except water. For more information on AAFCO regulations, visit aafco.org.

Made for Meat Lovers

Made for Meat Lovers

If there's one thing cats crave, it's the rich taste of pure meat. It makes sense, because they're obligate carnivores. Your four-legged friend probably lets you know exactly what she likes, and it's sure to be fish, poultry or meat. Fussie Cat has farm-raised poultry, ocean fish from the South Pacific, and a whole range of interesting seafood options like Threadfin Bream, smoked tuna, mussels, clams and anchovies.

Physiologically Correct Diets

Knowing that cats need meat protein to survive, Fussie Cat developed formulas that they call Physiologically Correct. As true carnivores, their bodies are extremely efficient in processing meat, so 20% of their diet should come from animal proteins. Fussie Cat's foods start with meat, are low in carbs and include a complete spectrum of essential vitamins and minerals. You can be sure your kitty's getting all the necessary amino acids, protein and other nutrients.

Kitty's Choice

Kitty's Choice

With two canned food lines and several tempting dry food options, your cat can always have the dinner she prefers. Fussie Cat Premium is a tuna-based menu that pairs this popular fish with chicken or seafood delicacies. Super Premium is made for chicken lovers with boneless chicken, low sodium levels and plenty of omegas. Market Fresh dry foods are crunchy and delicious, with proteins full of vitamin B12, and antioxidant-rich cranberries and blueberries.

Outstanding Quality Control

Fussie Cat makes their top-quality foods in an FDA-registered kitchen—the same kitchen that produces canned food that's fit for people to eat. I have two cats. My younger cat is not a problem and is very happy with the fussie cat dry cat food. My 18 year old has digestive issues. I tried everything I could think of, including cooking chicken 2 to3 times a week. It was all he would eat. I knew he wasn't getting the nutrition he needed but at least he was eating. My daughter suggested I try the fussie cat canned cat food. What a difference!! He is putting on weight and would eat 2 or 3 cans at a feeding if I let him. I limited him to one can a feeding and if he is still hungry, I supplement it with a spoonful of tuna. My daughter and I call it "kitty crack"!! Her cats love it as much as mine. To begin with my cats love this and the Salmon too. It has real pieces that you can see. It is not all water like Liavdra is used too. I generally leave a quality dry food out at night and in the morning I give them wet food. If I use Purina or Max Cat or others, which has a lot of water, my cats are still hungry. I was under the impression that she was someones cat and just coming out at night for a meal. WRONG! I found out some inhumane moron had tossed this poor kitten out when she was just a couple months old. She survived, evading predators and eating what she could when she could. Needless to say when I took her in she was skin and bones. Literally! When I feed her a third of a can of (mostly water) cat she inhales it and is begging for more. I give her a portion of this Fussie Cat, she is satisfied. This smaller can goes much further than a larger can of groundup with water wet food … more

  • Fit for Mom!

    By on

Honestly, this food smells so good I would eat it! My VERY fussy, spoiled, adorable kitty absolutely loves any of the Fussie Cat flavors with aspic. The quality is so good it stays soft and moist all day unlike cheaper foods that get hard as a rock! And to think, it took 16 years to find something she loves this much that's good for her as well!

  • Not a favorite

My cats like some of the other flavors better but the real problem with all the flavors is Fussie is adding big chunks of dark meat, and lately more and more small pieces of dark. My cats hate the chunks of dark meat and eat around it. I have been buying Fussie Cat for years but lately it seems like they have been using more and more of the dark chunks. Sure hope they are not using this as a filler. Might be time to switch to something new!

  • Overrated and Altogether Disappointing

    By on

When I surfed and discovered this, I thought from a majority of the reviews that I really had made a find. What I got was a disheartening reaction: my cats studied it, sniffed it a little, gave it a few licks, and ventured a delicate bite before backing off. The can was so jampacked with pieces of tough meat, I discovered, that squeezed out any liquid, and moisture, the aspic could have rendered. This was its death knell as far as my cats were concerned.

  • Who knew?!

    By on

Without a doubt no cat food was more aptly named than this one re my cat. I have been through at least 7 or 8 different brands and then lots more within the brand itself. I can't recommend that your cat will like this, but mine does. And I am most thankful to have ended my search to keep his stomach happy. :-)

It has been difficult to find foods that my fussiest cat will eat with relish (not the pickle kind), but this food lives up to its name. Little Man and I thank you!
