Feed ¾ -1 oz per lb of body weight (5 – 10 lbs) and ¾ oz per lb of body weight (10 – 15 lbs each day, split into two meals.

Transition Instructions

Many pets require up to 7 - 10 days to adjust to a new food because their intestinal tracts contain unique bacteria and enzymes that need to adapt to the proper digestion of a new food. Follow these guidelines for changing your pet’s current dry or canned food to Halo dry or canned food:

Days 1 - 3: 75% old food, 25% Halo Days 4 - 5: 50% old food, 50% Halo Days 6 - 7: 25% old food, 75% Halo Days 8+: 100% Halo

If you have a pet with a sensitive stomach, transition them even more slowly (over 2 to 3 weeks) to avoid digestive upset.

If your dog or cat experiences digestive upset during the transition (poor appetite, vomiting, diarrhea or soft stool, etc.), return to the new food amount that was not causing problems and keep them there for a few more days before continuing with the diet change. Once your pet is eating all Halo if you change between the flavors, consider a 2 or 3 day transition to minimize stomach upset.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is canned food bad for my pet’s teeth?

No. While many vets recommend dry food to "keep teeth clean and healthy" it is a fact that many pets do not chew their food well enough to get any abrasive cleaning action from dry food. Whether you feed dry or canned food the single most important thing for dental health is tooth brushing.

Why does Halo refer to its products as natural?

Because it is! AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) defines "natural" pet food as having ingredients from ONLY plant, animal or mined sources. These foods cannot be highly processed or contain chemically synthetic ingredients, such as artificial flavors, preservatives or colorings.

Why does Halo refer to its products as holistic?

The holistic viewpoint that Halo has stems from the belief that health is achieved by focusing on the whole body through natural living. Halo believes that the quality of ingredients a pet eats is the foundation of overall well-being but that elimination of harsh chemicals from food, treats and the environment is also critical to achieve optimal health.

Why does Halo use so much egg and peas in their formulations?

Halo uses eggs and peas as an additional source of highly digestible protein to support protein levels in all formulations. Halo does not use meat meal as a concentrated source of dried protein and uses only whole real meat ingredients. It is more difficult to achieve very high protein levels when using whole real meat instead of a meat meal. We feel the eggs and peas are healthier alternatives to meat meal.

Why does Halo avoid rice and corn in their foods?

Halo defines corn and white rice as "fillers". These are carbohydrates that may raise blood sugar levels rapidly and create hormonal signals that may have negative long term effects on metabolism and weight gain. Corn and rice based diets may also contribute to chronic symptoms of maldigestion, such as gas, bloating, and diarrhea.

Halo makes healthier carbohydrate choices by using whole grains such as barley and oats and vegetables like sweet potatoes. These carbohydrates are nutrient-dense because they supply energy as well as high levels of fiber for digestive health and high levels of vitamins and minerals for overall health.

  • Stew recipe no, PATÉ YES!

    By on

I'm so grateful to Chewy for putting up with me until I found a can cat food my finicky eaters like. The stew of this brand had whole peas and other veggie chucks that got left in the bowl. Also a lot of water (stew, right?) This paté has the veggies mushed up and the cats don't notice. I'm also pleased my purchase supports food for shelters. Additionally the can food is not costing me a fortune unlike some grain free brands.

  • Happy cats and happy pet parent

I had been buying very expensive prescription food but after seeing a Veterinary internist she thinks with treatment my cat with IBD can eat regular food again since the rx diet that was so expensive was not helping. Both of my cats liked this and it was a major saving over what I had been getting.

  • Not ideal for senior cats

    By on

My senior kitty didn't care for the texture - it is far too thick and low moisture. My adult cat did seem to like it but he prefers the higher moisture spots stew to this pate variety

  • My cats only liked this flavor

    By on

I purchased three flavors of the Halo brand wet food. The other two I think were lamb and one was a mix of seafood with crab. They will only eat this one .. I have 3 cats varying in age from one to nine. i bought this hoping it would be easier on my older cat's digestive system. It seems that when she eats wet food, usually Fancy Feast brand, she vomits. But so far I have not noticed any vomiting with this Halo. I am unsure if it's been long enough to judge (we only received about a week ago) and she didn't have issues EVERY time she ate Fancy Feast, but so far no vomiting so I hope that is how it stays. Poor kitty!!

  • A solid pate

    By on

Not fishy and not too much liquid which is best for price and for providing more esp to place meds into. Not smelly either! Cats like a variety so this is given once a day, seems as if their coats are shiner.

  • My two adult cats absolutely love this cat food.

    By on

My two adult cats absolutely love this food. I had been feeding them the seafood variety of Friskies canned food, but I could sense that they were getting tired of it. That's when I decided to switch them to this cat food. I love the fact that Chewy's offers so many kinds of dry and wet dog/cat food and will continue to purchase my food from them. The prices are also great.

  • Great Product!

    By on

My 20 year old boy loves this food! And his is very finicky (he only eats paté)! He is on medication to control his hyperthyroidism, which tends to dry his skin. However, with Halo his fur looks shiny. We are so glad we found a food that nourishes him, and he is willing to eat.
