Transition Instructions

Many pets require up to 7 - 10 days to adjust to a new food because their intestinal tracts contain unique bacteria and enzymes that need to adapt to the proper digestion of a new food. Follow these guidelines for changing your pet’s current dry or canned food to Halo dry or canned food:

Days 1 - 3: 75% old food, 25% Halo Days 4 - 5: 50% old food, 50% Halo Days 6 - 7: 25% old food, 75% Halo Days 8+: 100% Halo

If you have a pet with a sensitive stomach, transition them even more slowly (over 2 to 3 weeks) to avoid digestive upset.

If your dog or cat experiences digestive upset during the transition (poor appetite, vomiting, diarrhea or soft stool, etc.), return to the new food amount that was not causing problems and keep them there for a few more days before continuing with the diet change. Once your pet is eating all Halo if you change between the flavors, consider a 2 or 3 day transition to minimize stomach upset.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is canned food bad for my pet’s teeth?

No. While many vets recommend dry food to "keep teeth clean and healthy" it is a fact that many pets do not chew their food well enough to get any abrasive cleaning action from dry food. Whether you feed dry or canned food the single most important thing for dental health is tooth brushing.

Why does Halo refer to its products as natural?

Because it is! AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) defines "natural" pet food as having ingredients from ONLY plant, animal or mined sources. These foods cannot be highly processed or contain chemically synthetic ingredients, such as artificial flavors, preservatives or colorings.

Why does Halo refer to its products as holistic?

The holistic viewpoint that Halo has stems from the belief that health is achieved by focusing on the whole body through natural living. Halo believes that the quality of ingredients a pet eats is the foundation of overall well-being but that elimination of harsh chemicals from food, treats and the environment is also critical to achieve optimal health.

Why does Halo use so much egg and peas in their formulations?

Halo uses eggs and peas as an additional source of highly digestible protein to support protein levels in all formulations. Halo does not use meat meal as a concentrated source of dried protein and uses only whole real meat ingredients. It is more difficult to achieve very high protein levels when using whole real meat instead of a meat meal. We feel the eggs and peas are healthier alternatives to meat meal.

Why does Halo avoid rice and corn in their foods?

Halo defines corn and white rice as "fillers". These are carbohydrates that may raise blood sugar levels rapidly and create hormonal signals that may have negative long term effects on metabolism and weight gain. Corn and rice based diets may also contribute to chronic symptoms of maldigestion, such as gas, bloating, and diarrhea.

Halo makes healthier carbohydrate choices by using whole grains such as barley and oats and vegetables like sweet potatoes. These carbohydrates are nutrient-dense because they supply energy as well as high levels of fiber for digestive health and high levels of vitamins and minerals for overall health.

About Halo Wet Cat Food

America's Best Loved Holistic Brand
Holistic. Whole. Humane.

Holistic. Whole. Humane.

Halo is committed to providing no less than the best holistic recipes to satisfy your cat’s carnivorous cravings. Their wet cat food combines pure, natural ingredients like whole meat, poultry and fish plus non-GMO fruits and vegetables for delicious, more digestible meals. Following a whole meat philosophy, Halo never uses animal by-products or meat meals—just the real, whole proteins your cat needs to thrive.

Superior Digestibility

Halo believes that whole meat equals a whole lot more digestibility. As obligate carnivores, cats need meat, not just parts of animals that you wouldn’t consider to be meat. When your pet gets whole proteins instead of rendered meats like chicken meal or fish meal, they’re getting optimum nutrition that’s easier for their body to digest. And that means they can get the full benefits of each nutrient-rich ingredient.

What's in Your Cat's Bowl?

With Halo, you won’t see a meat meal hiding anywhere in the ingredients, and there’s no corn, wheat, wheat gluten, rice or artificial colors, preservatives or flavors. Here’s what you will find:

Holistic Whole Meat: Salmon, whitefish, chicken or turkey that's slow-cooked provides a more digestible source of protein with up to 16 times less ash than rendered meat.

Non-GMO Produce: Fruits and vegetables from farms that refuse to use genetically modified seeds that rely heavily on chemical fertilizers and herbicides to produce crops.

  • My cats love Halo Spot Stew - and I know it's good for them

    By on

I recently adopted 2 cats from a shelter after not having to purchase any cat food for over 3 years... wow... all the choices. I only want to feed my indoor-only cats to eat the very best natural foods to give them the best chance at healthy living. Their coats are really soft now. They eat it up like treat food! I rotate between salmon, turkey, and chicken for variety. Please continue stocking theses cat foods

  • Very Happy

This food has been a lifesaver for my kitty. She most likely has cancer and this is the only food she will eat that doesn't cause her to throw-up. Love the price, fast delivery and customer service at Chewy!

  • New Formula is Terrible!!!!!! Do not buy if you were using the original.

    By on

My cat will not eat the new formula. I don't know if the company was bought out and new management decided to cut quality for profit or they just thought they were improving an already excellent product. Either way, they failed! I thought I finally found a cat food for the rest of my cats life and now I have to search for something new. Anyone with a similar experience, please raise your voice! I want the old formula back!

My cat has a very sensitive stomach. This is the only food that I have found that she can keep down. Since being on this food she has gained weight and her coat looks great.

  • New can but...

    By on

I think they need to go back to their old recipe... the label was not the problem, changing the recipe is. My kitty love the turkey flavor, he was soooo happy each time turkey was on the menu, until one day he stopped eating it. Please, bring your old (around April 2015) recipe back!

  • Didn't work out for me.

    By on

My cats can be fickle eaters. They love one kind of food for a while and then one day they are "over it". So I was searching for a new food for them. Spot's Stew came highly recommended on your site. Unfortunately my cats won't eat it. The 2 times they are hungry enough to finish it, they leave the vegetables in the bowl.

  • Veggies are too obvious!

    By on

I believe this is a quality food and Austeyn and Logan like it. However, they will pick out the large peas and chunks of green beans and carrots and put them on the side of their dishes. If the veggies were maybe mushed up in the food, they would actually eat them. Still, the pate part of the food is soft and they will eat that. (And there is no carragenean which is a huge plus!)
