I have been having trouble find a variety of food for my little gal who has stage 2 kidney disease. She seems to like the Hi-Tor so far. She prefer things that are either flaky or fair soft. Hi -Tor is softer than some of the others.

FINALLY a lower phosphorus, easy to eat pâté food, my thinning girl, with ckd LOVES! After refusing expensive "prescription" food and many other brands, she and my two other kitties devour this. Yay!

We have spent the last year looking for foods for our CKD cat. All of the prescription diets do not have him coming back to the bowl on his own (Royal Canin had him coming back for a second helping for the first few months, but he still wouldn't finish it without being placed in front of him a few times (still was better than Hills K/D)).
We've been giving him this and Nature's Logic Beef for awhile now. We've been basically switching back and forth to keep his interest (with this as his primary), and it's been working GREAT!
We come home after work and find that he's finished his wet food without us prodding him about it!
We mix his medication into his wet food for breakfast and dinner (and give him dry for free feed because an empty belly allows his nausea to get really bad - he hates syringing and pilling... so...), and we haven't had ANY problems with palatability with this food.
It beats giving him a high-phosphorus food that may be bad for him, or having to chase him with his food dish for several hours out of the day just to assure he gets all his meds in him... so being just a tiny bit higher in phosphorus than the prescription food makes it totally worth it (he's actually never had elevated phosphorus anyways, so the vet said we can really afford to give him something with higher phosphorus).
Thanks to Hi-Tor for making a CKD prescription food that doesn't require a prescription to get (I cannot state how frustrating it is to have to get the vets to write prescriptions every time we switch foods or decide to try something new --- because of this we've spent considerable time looking into non-prescription foods for him (which has been a huge headache... but really, it's worth it!))!
And thanks to Chewy for carrying it as well!

My cat really does seem to enjoy this prescription food. We have tried other brands, but she does not seem to be tiring of this one. I will purchase it again.

by bfc2345 She likes it! Hey, Mikey! She likes it!
My kitty is only nine years old and was already experiencing kidney failure. She refused to eat the k/d food the vet gave us, and she was losing weight rapidly. She was admitted to the hospital and given an IV for three days.
I searched everywhere, and the Neo Diet had good reviews here, so I figured I would try it.
Luckily, she gobbled it up! I was so relieved! It's been two days since she tried it, and she is still eating it heartily! (She ate the vet food for two days then stopped, so I hope this continues.)
I only didn't give it five stars because it is meat by-product.

My 15 year old is being treated for thyroid but now one of his kidney levels is barely over the normal level but my vet wasnt concerned and wants to retest in a few months. I decided it was time to start trying low protein low phosphorous diets. I have had cats all my life but he is by far the most finicky. He likes some foods for a few days, few months etc. There is no reason to it. He loved this food day one. After that he is not as excited about it but if i wait a few days and offer it he will eat it. Yes the texture is weird but it is pate-ish which is his favorite. The bloodtest in a few months will be interesting but for now i will keep buying this.

My 16 yr. old cat was recently diagnosed with kidney failure and the vet prescribed a wet food diet low in phosphorus (specifically Purina nf). I read a lot of reviews and then decided to order the Purina nf along with this cat food. Although this food is higher in phosphorus levels, I figured that if this one was mixed in with the Purina nk, that my cat may be more likely to eat it. That is exactly what happened and I mix this at 25% Hi-Tor to 75% Purina with water and my cat laps it up. I have never ordered from Chewy.com before but they had the best prices when I used the first time customer discount. Beat out all the other websites I checked, including Amazon. Shipping was incredibly quick - I think I received the product 2 days after ordering! Will order again!
