Weight and constipation drove me to search for a healthy alternative to the foods I was buying at the store
CHEWY.COM had all three of the choices I made.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Vicki Seems to be the only CKD food she'll eat
My 14-year old cat was diagnosed with CKD a few months ago and we've been struggling with the k/d that the vet prescribed. She just refused to eat the food, so I went looking for alternatives. Although this food has a higher phosphorous count than the prescription diet, my cat WILL eat this food. I'm thrilled that there's another option out there that is geared towards CKD cats but that also, apparently, tastes good. She's been eating this food for about a month now and so far, we haven't had any problems. I hope the brand creates another protein/flavor suitable for CKD cats because I'd love to alternate proteins for her.

I have two 20 yr old sister cats with kidney problems. They got tired of their prescription diet so I tried this. They love it. No more dried up leftovers in the bowl.

I'm not a fan of food with by products and/or grains, but when you're dealing with CKD you're between a rock and a hard place. We ordered some, but lost our CKD cat that liked these due to his illness the day it arrived. Our other CKD cats system didn't handle it well so we donated both cases to our local no kill shelter. Some take to it and some don't. I wouldn't say it's not worth trying if you're in a tough spot like we were. It just didn't work out for us.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Shannam My cat likes it
I have been having trouble find a variety of food for my little gal who has stage 2 kidney disease. She seems to like the Hi-Tor so far. She prefer things that are either flaky or fair soft. Hi -Tor is softer than some of the others.

FINALLY a lower phosphorus, easy to eat pâté food, my thinning girl, with ckd LOVES! After refusing expensive "prescription" food and many other brands, she and my two other kitties devour this. Yay!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Quin WOW!
We have spent the last year looking for foods for our CKD cat. All of the prescription diets do not have him coming back to the bowl on his own (Royal Canin had him coming back for a second helping for the first few months, but he still wouldn't finish it without being placed in front of him a few times (still was better than Hills K/D)).
We've been giving him this and Nature's Logic Beef for awhile now. We've been basically switching back and forth to keep his interest (with this as his primary), and it's been working GREAT!
We come home after work and find that he's finished his wet food without us prodding him about it!
We mix his medication into his wet food for breakfast and dinner (and give him dry for free feed because an empty belly allows his nausea to get really bad - he hates syringing and pilling... so...), and we haven't had ANY problems with palatability with this food.
It beats giving him a high-phosphorus food that may be bad for him, or having to chase him with his food dish for several hours out of the day just to assure he gets all his meds in him... so being just a tiny bit higher in phosphorus than the prescription food makes it totally worth it (he's actually never had elevated phosphorus anyways, so the vet said we can really afford to give him something with higher phosphorus).
Thanks to Hi-Tor for making a CKD prescription food that doesn't require a prescription to get (I cannot state how frustrating it is to have to get the vets to write prescriptions every time we switch foods or decide to try something new --- because of this we've spent considerable time looking into non-prescription foods for him (which has been a huge headache... but really, it's worth it!))!
And thanks to Chewy for carrying it as well!
